The reality is this dude's going to be hitting 1500 yards and 8-10 td a year.

Dude signed on his team's bye week and came in and put up pace for around 1k yards his rookie year.
With Vernon Davis being a main option, I don't see this as a possibility, because you'd have to depend on SF's QB(s) putting up probably about 3000+ yards a year and lol @ that.

Yeah... 1500 yards and 8-10 TDs would be his ceiling on a team with a great passing offense, which the 49ers are far from being. Andre Johnson is the only player with 1500 yards this season, Welker is next with 1336.

It's not about how great Crabtree will be, nobody is denying that. In a keeper league you keep based on value, if you're not giving up anything to keep a player and just get to keep three, you hold your three highest picks. I don't really know what Crabtree's projected draft position will be next year but I would be absolutely shocked if it is above Gates. Keep gates, use a 5-6th round pick or whatever it is to get Crabtree and you win. Same goes for Schaub, although I think not keeping Schaub and Brees in a 2qb league would just be retarded.

Edit- I think this is a more debatable keeper choice. Keep 1 player, give up a draft pick based on where the player ranked LAST year. Top 12 scorers are a first round pick, 13-24 are a 2nd etc. Greg Jennings is looking to be a 6th or 7th round pick, I have him or Jerome Harrison. How do you guys think the Browns will end up looking next year? A studly starting RB would be amazing to get for like a 10th round pick, but Jennings seems like the safe bet.

That's a tough call. I would probably play it safe and go with Jennings. Even in a bit of down year in which he had only 4 TDs, he's still a top 20 WR. He's on such a great passing offense that should only get better, I wouldn't be able to let him go. As for Harrison, I see him as a solid no. 2 RB next year, but he will probably be in a timeshare with Chris Jennings or someone else. Chances are the Browns will be pretty shitty again, when in doubt I usually go with the better offense, and GB and Cleveland are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Yeah, Jennings is definitely the safe bet. It's just hard seeing a guy getting the ball 30 times a game and knowing I could keep him for a pick in the 10-12th round. Jennings is doing shit today though, so it looks like he could fall from late 6th to 7th or maybe even 8th, at which point it is a no brainer.

Ended up winning real IDP and BG East. Gonna lose 2QB to Tyr probably 20ish if TJ sucks tonight, which he will. I picked up Arian Foster in BGE and 2QB but only played him in BGE. Derp. I just liked the matchups better I suppose.

As far as other placements, got 3rd in BGP which I'm happy with, 2nd in 2QB, and 6th in IDP* (the incorrect one everyone gave up on) and 6th in 20 man. Overall, not a bad year!

    3071 brah!

Seriously, I assure you if Ryan Leaf got drafted to a team that had Frank Gore running, Crabtree at #1, Morgan at #2, and Vernon Davis at TE, he would not have been considered a bust. (not to mention Isaac Bruce there to coach them)

The crazy thing is, Gore is the old guy of the bunch at 26...

I dunno if it'll be Alex Smith or not, but SF will throw for 3500+ next year.

Again, everything being talked about here is worst case scenarios, if the kid actually turns out to be damn good... yeah. Gonna be crazy. I'll tell you this much, though, he is the sole reason TT had a championship caliber season, instead of their typical 8ish wins.

The main thing with Gates is that there's a *LOT* of TE's with huge potential next year. Do you really think Gates, Celek, Finley, Shiancoe, Davis, Clark, Daniels, are all going to be off the board before Crabtree?

    Oh, you think so?

Ok then, settle for the guy that got 900 yards and 5 td in Freeman's horrid rookie season.

Or the guy that's been putting up 800 and a couple td's every year in Oakland, who averaged 6-7 catches and 70ish yards for the last few weeks of the season.

Oh, and there's that other Davis guy that's done pretty well lately...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict Witten gets more than 1 td to go with his thousand yards next year, too.

Hell, I'm not sure I'd much mind being "stuck" spending a 10th round pick on Pettigrew.

Finally, the difference between first and 10th at TE is like 5 more than the difference between first and 10th at WR. It's not the disparity it used to be, and I expect TE to be even more packed in at the top next year.

Anyway, I could go on and on about why Crabtree is a great choice, I really just thought that discussing the worst case scenarios and seeing that they're pretty damn nice summed it up the best.

And I certainly wouldn't fault anyone for keeping Gates, especially if they have a plan for getting Crabtree back next year anyway.

Well, my only argument was that I don't trust SF's QB situation at all. Alex Smith did a shit done better than he has the last few years, and had a career year... which is sad with only 2100+ yards, but still. Crabtree's got talent, but I always saw the WR position as one of the tougher ones to get truly good at early besides the QB spot.

I hope he does well though. I liked him in college.

I dunno, Smith is 25, and projected over the full season you're looking at 3100 yards, 25td, 17int.

The only year he's played 16 games, he went for 2900, 16/16.

He's been around a long time, but he's still young, and just getting to the age where the good qb's careers generally start to take off.

Your whole argument is based on Crabtree being a complete monster for the foreseeable future - if he believes that too he should keep Crabtree. However, I don't see Crabtree improving a great deal next season. It has been said that Crabtree is remarkably well-adjusted to the pro game already, so in my opinion it's the offense holding him back.

As for the TE position, Gates is #3 with 149 points, while #10(Olsen) has 88. That's a big difference. The TE position is definitely deeper than it was in the past, one of the reasons I waited towards the end of my draft to get John Carlson, who happened to finish #11 among TEs. Carlson had a ton of absolutely shitty games and rebounded at the end with the help of some TDs, and still managed to finish 11th.

    Carlson weekly totals: 21, 4, 3, 3, 2, 5, 3, 4, 9, 0, 1, 0, 8, 14, 8, 7
    Gates : 8, 7, 6, 24, 7, 5, 4, 6, 7, 4, 23, 16, 10, 9, 13, 7

You mentioned a lot of guys with potential, but picking the one that comes through is a crapshoot. Personally I have the same philosophy as you and would rather wait to the late rounds to grab one of those guys, but Gates scored enough to be the #13 WR this year, and getting that production out of the TE slot is huge.

At least I finally won BGE. Previous two years were 10th where I did awful, and 4th where I had a decent team but collapsed down the stretch. I pretty much owned BG East this year.
