Squareenix is wrong in using 3D secure

Ok, I know I'm prolly going to get nailed to the wall by the trolls for this but this is important to me, and I wish to light a fire under peoples asses about this instead of the "wait and see" mentality, that even I have adopted until this point.

Since the first announcement of the use of 3D Secure cards for paying for the monthly fees for FFXI, people have been scared/annoyed/scared/pissed/dismissive/scared about their accounts being "closed" and they then faced with the REALLY scary concept of having to be normal functioning adults in society. No one likes their routine fucked with, it's like getting your balls played with for 20 minutes by a hot chick only to have her get up and pull out a set of her own fat hairy balls and insist you start sucking them.

Backround: I had my secondary account hacked and had to go through the recovery process today. The very nice and helpful Customer Support Associate (almost stranger than a "cool GM") informed me that there is talk in their office that this card policy WILL, at some time in the near future, make it so that NO ONE without a 3D Secured card will be able to play. After expressing my own personal dislike of this situation he then advised me to visit community sites and begin a campaign of sorts in making our collective dislike of this policy known. If people can make SE change PW with bad press, we can change this.

Please people of BG, take up your collective torches and join me in this march on the gates of the monster. Let your voices be heard, make a ruckus, tell SE how you feel, and get this policy shit-canned along with Sundi's idea about putting a stallion medal on the Scorpion Harness.

Hello Square Enix, I've given you my money for 6 years, I'd like to keep doing so, 3D Secure card authorization is the worst idea you've had in years, please do not utilize this policy, as it will hurt your loyal customers. Thank you.

I've owned damn near every Squaresoft/Square Enix title ever released in the US. I've played every Final Fantasy there is. I've never had them not want my money. Now they decide to be penises about the entire process and use something to make it a pain in the ass. I don't hate SE, I just dislike their decision making process. If and when my accounts are closed, I will quit and laugh at their stupidity, then probably not play 14. It's just very sad that they would do this to people paying them over the course of 5-6 years.

Like I said I was awaiting the "this is advanced?" response.

I don't have a problem with the concept so much as the execution. I'm all for keeping my money secure, I just don't like SE springing it on people so suddenly. Those who will be affected tomorrow were unable to get a new card in time if their current payment system is not supported, leading to unnecessary suspensions. Giving us a decent amount of advance warning would have cushioned the reception somewhat. There still would have been grumbling, but not over the fact that it's being implemented within a week of receiving notice and they've already gone ahead with some suspensions.

"wah wah I want a prepaid walmart whatever bullshit card". Guess what, thats the same shit RMT use on trial accounts, because you can get an endless supply of them.

Both of my Visa's work with 3D secure, however it wasnt with the site SE gave that you have to sign up with it for. Look at your banks visa site, you can most likely get it setup there.

Nah, I'm just being optimistic. I don't know how widespread the system is yet; my assumption is it would be even less practical to implement it elsewhere. I have to admit I feel it's premature even here given that it's not widely implemented yet, but I suspect the companies behind 3D Secure are pushing it pretty hard so that may not last long.

Hi asshole, you're two bit logic fucking sucks when I've already called my bank, and 2 other competing banks in my area, and NONE of them offer this "service". Also, I have credit, I own a car, and pay rent/bills/everyday spending with 1 card that handles it all. None of my other online payments require this shit. Not the utility companies, or even wonderful Sallie Mae wanting money for the education I never used after college. I've explored my options before making this post, and made a damn fine attempt at letting my dislike of the situation be heard by SE's support staff, their managers, my bank, without damaging your precious eyes in reading these posts. If you don't like what I have to say, stick your bullshit secured cards up your ass, and get a less faggoty avatar. Thanks ^_^

I got a lot of SE games too, but some event in the last years of ffxi (WotG, salvage bans with bots still out there(I was not in the salvage bans), content-less patch, the 10$ add-ons, ...) just let me feel that SE do not care about the people that pay for the game.

I changed to WoW (go on and troll), and I was like everyone that plays FFXI, a WoW hater. But Blizzard is just THE best game company out there and they actually care about their customers.

I actually want them to use 3d secure though. I thought it was obvious that they intended to require SEAMS, 3-d for all future purchases and XIV.

I do not find it unreasonable for a large company to make policies that encourage each and every customer to use their real name and identification to apply for membership with their products.

While plenty of legitimate bank cards do not have 3-d secure, it is within SE's right to prefer customers who use the cards that do.

We can choose to buy other games if we don't like it. It is not like trying to find a new utility company to heat your house when you dislike their policy. It is not as if we have no choice but to play their game.

With so many customers willing to RMT their accounts when they are tired of SE and things do not go their way, I do not blame SE for wanting to legitimize the registration process in any form.

I am, however, appreciative of those who are willing to stand up and be heard, defending what they believe in. I wish the OP the best of luck.
