If he wants to be a fag and waste gold he can go spend 300g per epic gem and 10K on each of the epic craftable items that come out with each new raid. Top of the line enchants can also cost 1K+. Traveler's Tundra mammoth costs 16K, Chopper costs 12K, Grand Ice Mammoth costs 10K.

Because practically no end-game gear being buyable makes sense. FFXI had a decent economy at least. Gold is fucking meaningless outside of mounts.
