I don't see it as scared as it is as completely unnecessary. Most people in this thread have absolutely NO issue with the boss w/o killing FR so I dont see where the "fear" aspect of it comes into play whatsoever.

Then again maybe its just me using logic. I mean I leveled Gold to 100 and that too was easy, anyone who doesn't isnt pro.

To each his own I suppose.

lol @ trying to ninja between sheep/manticore/sabos on the way back to boss. Just cut south of the manticore, there's literally nothing down there.

And we kill fairy ring without much difficulty as long as people aren't retarded and stacking up in lines that get multiple people gibbed at once...not killing it pretty much forces the battle to be won before the first CS stun wears, not to mention DDs dying off a lot faster; killing it gives you enough room to add a 2nd CS stun if needed.

Never pulled the reg mobs when we farm, we stick with zone specific drops over reg city drops.

Fairy Ring is always killed when we do dunes, it is first thing we kill after flys. Sometimes he is a pain, sometimes he is a joke. Make sure to have a RNG there for shadowbind, it makes it work the best.

City drop rate are so stupidly high in COP zones we spend a bit of time farming them each run and haven't touched a dedicated city run in as long as I can remember. Hell we do the same thing with Tav for Beauc/Xarc drops.

This, could not agree more. We only kill a few city AF mobs per COP zone and we still end up with double what we normally got in a city zone. Twice the AF, half the time, and -1s and ACCs, it's pure win.

On topic, we've never killed FR, we just kill Flies, city mobs on the way to Nan'tina, then the boss, then farm. We have lost to CC a couple times, once due to me not telling mages where to stand (They aggroed Hippos standing on the wrong side of Selbina, my fault though ><), but other than that it's purely due to some nasty TP move sneaking through CSS, but it's nothing that killing FR would prevent from happening. (We run pretty light on the DD end so losing 1-2 to TP moves really hurts us during the zerg)

Now unfortunately, POIDH and I have no pics, but sometime in late June to early July, we killed Nan'tina like always, and CC still Charm-ga'ed us. So I know it's possible, probably not common at all though.

There's a theory I read on an olddddd bg thread about dyna-valk that said it could use the "locked" TP moves if someone outside its melee range pulled hate (usually a cs stunner). We had charmga go off on 2 of our first 3 ever valks despite killing the NM every time. Ever since I read that theory, we have always had a PLD open with voke => invinc before CSS started, and charmga has never happened since. By the time the rdm/drks surpass the PLD, the DD have unloaded and have all the hate, so someone in melee range always has hate.

Obviously a tiny sample size, could be coincidence, etc. But if it's happening before a lot of your DD have a chance to unload, it could be the rdm/drks pulling hate triggering it. Or it could be something completely different, of course...

Don't need pics. It can still charm, that's why valk boss is such a coin toss.

Curious, how many people are you beating this boss with? 24? 30? My friend said a group if 18 is suicide so I dunno what to expect. My LS averages 12-18 people, in which we just farm Valkurm normally (clearing all Nightmare Hippos and Manticores).

18 people should be fine if you have at least 3-4 well geared DRKs, 1-2 WHM and 2 BRDs, RDM/DRK, THF, couple of extra DDs such as SAM included in those 18.
As for Fairy Ring, my LS has always skipped it and just gone after the Goobbue because FR seems like a waste of time

We do valk with an average of 15, 16 people. And we just unload on FR while the pld 2hrs. As for the gobbuue asshole, same thing applies, minus a 2hr. If you get hate, you get hate, meh, whatever. Although uppercut hurts.

We use a pseudo-chainstun from the black mage party; it makes fairy ring sooooo much easier.

If you got the balls just bring out your best chainstunner and kick the shit out of the boss right after you kill flies.

Boss is easily killed per 1 kclub drk(2mkris/ridills?).

Charm depends on your chainstunner, if it's a good one you'll be fine -- charm is a tp move(i think?); either way it's "readied" and there's a noticeable lag between the readying and being charmed so a perfect stunlock is what you want.

Maybe with a poorly geared and led group 18 is suicide. But with decent gear and strong leadership with players who listen 18 will be np. Sure you may wipe here and there because a charm slips through, but it happens. We generally have 16-20 members for all our runs and go the cop win every time.

Keep in mind too we don't have any ridills or kraken clubs. Maybe 1-2 bards tops. Also for the Nantina NM, you guys zerg it? Doesn't it spam Charmga like really bad like the Dynamis Orc NMs? And I would guess that Attractant AOE is instant as a tp move. So thought maybe you blm zerg it to be safe. Also if killing Nantina does nothing to hinder the charmga affect, why even kill it at all?

MKris > Ridill, you have to have atleast 1 lol... If not then 3 of your best geared drks should do the trick.

The charmga length/usage is supposedly shortened/lowered after the goobue nm is dead. But, regardless of what happens -- it only takes 1 charm to go off to get your face splattered. Your chainstunning makes the biggest difference here.

I've actually never seen Nantina even attempt his charmga move in all the times we've fought him. If it goes off there's a long cave you can kite him through pretty easily until it wears off. We just melee it down like a normal mob, takes like less than a minute to kill.

Just wanted to say a big thanks for the hints we received here, just sailed through a Valkurm today for the first time with this group. Much appreciated Didn't bother with fairy ring, had plenty of time to clear out the normal mobs and boss went down smoothly. Ended up with 70 mins to farm after wiping to the nightmare morbols lol...

Here's a general run down of how we do Valk.

3 Pullers grab the flies and head back to camp near the Outpost. After they're dead, we head south towards Fairy Ring. Have a THF Sac the Mobs while a RDM pulls Fairy Ring to camp along the ocean with Gravity. PLD grabs Fairy ring and faces it at the ocean, pops JA's and a RDM/DRK CS stuns, then everyone zergs it down. Next we head for the Gobbue, killing Beastmen along the way, Pull the Gobbue through the tunnel, kill that, then head to CC. Pull a few manticores to store TP on, kill MB. Kill Manticores, hippos, clear the area of the stones and beastmen. Then farm Hippo's, Manticores and Cactuars if we got time.
