Yeah but I play with only the cool characters. And the answer to that is Lulu Auron and Tidus. Healerwut.

Bleh Wakka does that weird ass pelvic thrust crap after each fight that's faintly disturbing (and I can't be arsed to play blitzball to make him any good). Yuna/Tidus/Auron please - Rikku's just the mandatory underdressed RPG slapper character.
I um... accidentally saved over my fella's FFX save game - he was just getting ready to take on Penance as well - he took the news suprisingly well considering (serves him right for thinking it was funny to send me a route that ran me right into the dark Magus Sisters when I was somewhat more clueless).
Actually just replayed this game last week haha. This time around tha fight was joke. Made ramza a ninja with concentrate. He 1 shot Wiegraf and I got lucky with no counter, then I set up another ninja with concentrate, 2 lancers and a black mage. I forgot the combination I used in previous playthroughs
I never did finish FFT because of that fight... I should one day go through the game again so I can finally finish it once and for all.
This. I actually took a 2 week break from TLR after losing this fight probably close to 50 times. There-after I probably took another 5-10 tries to kill it.
Really was the worst boss in that game. What was even worse, is there's an even harder version of it as a secret hunt or whatever for the guild.
I haven't played The Last Remnant whatsoever. Out of curiosity, what is it (in layman's terms) that makes that boss so ridiculous?
I actually just did the fight too, been replaying FFT. I've played it through so many times now though that I don't mind being cheap. I usually just have ramza go Squire and spam Yell and Accumulate and then he kills Wiegraf in 1 shot. Then I use him to kill the minions before anyone can even move lol. After that I started to feel cheap so I kept ramza away from Velius and let my other members do something xD
The battle starts with Hell's Gate + other (Not so hard enemies) and you get like the first 2 turns or so Hell's-gate-free. Usually to clear the adds. Rush will prompt to summon Cyclops, and Cyclops will kill shit.
The rage-part of this battle, is that Hell's Gate will often go twice (Once at the beginning of round, and then once at the end of round) while also attacking each Union that engages it. This often kills at least one Union if you're not careful.
But losing a group isn't that bad right? This is the first fight where the game introduces "Enthrall" status ailment. In which, Hell's gate can use on any knocked out Union, and they become enemies in Hell's Gate's aid.
This is rage-worthy. Not only are you trying to damage Hell's Gate, you're trying to keep up on curing, keep up on reviving before turns' end (To avoid Enthralls), and if cyclops dies and get's enthralled you might as well just reset because the fight just got stupid. In the chance a group is enthralled, you have to kill that group, revive them, and hope that Hell's gate doesn't obliterate more Unions in the process.
I thought I was servilely over-leveled before this point, this game taught me there is no such thing as over-leveled. After losing so much, I just said fuck this and took a break. Later on I gave it a few more tries. And the time I beat it, I must have got lucky or something, because it was painfully easy to kill. Maybe the game just felt bad for me.
the only way I beat Gates of Hell was by chance my healing group learned Rejuvenating Water mid-fight and saved everyone.
Also after hours and hours of leveling in Ancient Ruins I found the 2nd optional Gates boss pretty easy, or at least easier than the first. I had a harder time with the royal flush beastmen dudes, at least until Irina learned Fatal Eclipse.
Last Remnant is one of those games that I'm really glad I played (and put well over 200 hours into) but I will never, ever play ever again.
Completely agree with ya there, after I beat it, never playing again. I can see how the second version of it's easier, because you're not forced to fight it and can prepare for it lol. First version it's part of the story and there's a nice save point (With warning that you can't go back of course, this should have been my first DUH) right before it so you get stuck there if you save lol.
Sephiroth, Kingdom Hearts 2....
