Never underestimate communists...
Again though. You're hoping he doesn't trade away young talent. If for some reason the Rangers would be dumb enough to hit him up for GM duties can you imagine the amount of pressure that will be put on him to win. And win immediately? The problem with the Rangers is that they are the Yankees. Anything less than a Stanley Cup makes the season a waste of time. Being the biggest media city in the NHL that carries a lot of pressure, criticism, speculation(hai2ucaptaingm), amongst other things.
To be honest, Sather hasn't made a ton of boneheaded trades lately aside from the Derek Morris move last year. Losing Kalinin didn't really make much of a difference. But tossing in Dawes and Prucha was a waste of decent young players.
Sather's primary problem is that he doesn't know dick about the salary cap or how to maximize what he can get with his remaining cap space. The fact that he has made several huge blunders in contract signings has severely limited his overall ability to make a move to improve the team. Without contracts like Roszival's(just one example) Sather could have made a bit of a bigger splash. But with New York fans and the New York media the mentality always seems to be win now worry later.
No matter who the Rangers GM is they will always trade young talented players away for an established(most likely aging and deteriorating) player. See Derek Morris for further proof.
Aaaand Dan Cleary out for 4 weeks.
Datsyuk
Zetterberg
Franzen
Filppula
Cleary
Lidstrom
Rafalski
Kronwall
Stuart
Lilja
And to add to our awesomeness at forward, Datsyuk hasn't been playing all that well. Lose your #3 forward (#1 in goals) to FA, #4-6 to injuries, 2 defenseman to injuries... all long-term! Hopefully the 2nd half of the season won't be so bad.
To be fair...Sather really hasn't either.
Off the top of my head, the trades he's made are:
*Trading away Leetch and Kovalev pre-lockout
*Kondratiev for Sykora (okay that was a youth trade)
*Niemenem for Ozolinsh
*Hall for Dupuis...then for Bourret
Tyutin for Zherdev (This was a legitimate shot to get a goal scorer in here. It didn't pan out but we have a lot of depth in the system on the blueline, can't fault that one)
Prucha and Dawes were no longer in our long-term plans...can't fault them.
Korpikoski for Lisin..again an attempt to move a guy no longer in the plan to bring back more talent.
Sather has made AWFUL contracts since he's been here. Drury and Redden are easily the worse 2 contracts in the league, or at least 2 of the worse.
BUT where has he done anything to mortgage the future for the sake of the now?
Tell me a kid he's traded away that we'd be better team if we still had now?
Sather deserves a LOT of flack for what he's done to build this team...but sell off the youth?
Lundqvist (lucky, but shit, we have him, all that matters), Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Staal, Del Zotto, Gilroy (who got sent down to HFD today...wtf?!?), Heikkenen...
In the pipeline: Grachev, Stepen, Werek, Kreider, Sauer...
If Sather has done one, one damn thing right, it's NOT selling the farm in terms of giving away prospects. The evidence of that is Dubinsky is still a Ranger, and not a Senator.
Edit: To add, when Sather makes deadline moves, they're ALWAYS lateral moves. An expiring contract for another, a gritty guy for a gritty guy. He has fully kept away from the prospects/picks for "final piece" sort of trade. The closest thing to that was last season's 4th round pick for Antropov...which I think was fair...would have been better if we could have kept him, which I now regret we didn't, would sure as shit look better than Kotalik.
Sather should fucking kill himself.
HOW DO YOU SEND DOWN OR BEST DEFENSIVE DMAN TO THE MINORS.
2-1 habs yay
damn officer!!!! had to blow before the goal!
Gilroy 4G 2A +2
Staal 3G 9A -2
Staal is up against other teams top line night in, night out. Gilroy plays against inferior offensive players, plus gets more PP time than Staal.
Gilroy will probably, at one point, be the better offensive DMan, but he's been struggling for a while now.
Best DMan? No Way!
Just saw the Habs/Pens disallowed goal, and wow was that horrible.
They really need to change the rule or allow proper video reviews in those cases.
Loves me a Rick Rypien fight. Canucks at home this year has been pretty awesome.
I think the stupidest rule is "intent to blow". You cant document that at all, theres no proof of anything, "intent to blow". Soooo stupid.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/4509
lol? Think someone hacked that? Wait theres actually a player named Chris Lee too? lol
Of course you can cite the video being lagged as the culprit, anyone who saw it on TV knows thats not lag and the puck is clearly in the net. Fuck "intent to blow", you can blow my nuts.
There have already been dozens this season, it really is bullshit. Same with phantom goalie interference calls, a ref can call it and no matter what happened it is not a goal as it is not reviewable.
Rata, I have to ask. What the fuck is up with your boy Price's non-existent glove hand? Every game I see him play he muffs a shot and it ends up being a goal. Someone needs to get that kid on the baseball diamond with a fungo and wail into him until he stops making ridiculous mistakes with the glove. I started laughing my ass off when he muffed that shot.
