Staggy & Bob are my heroes. Here's to hoping Staggy doesn't get in trouble for this one! I found it personally hilarious, despite what you old, uptight geezers think here.

Sean Avery doesn't count because he's not human.

I found it personally hilarious, despite what you old, uptight geezers think here.
Funny in the wow you're a fuck for laughing at someone's tragic death kind of way. It was in poor taste and had it been a comment directed towards someone like Michel Briere(aka someone related to the Penguins) people would have been furious. It has nothing to do with being older, it was in poor taste. Period.

Please, lighten the fuck up. I guess every 9/11 joke makes you poo-poo too? People make jokes about tragedies to distance themselves from their own mortality. I'm going to die, you're going to die, your wife is going to die, that girl who lost her tickets is going to die - even Mark Eaton will eventually die. No one is free from it but everyone is scared (to death) to succumb to it, so people make these sort of jokes to distance themself from the reality they face.

    Adding this little part:
Dude died in like fucking 1919. Hes been dead for 80-some years. He'd be dead now even if he didn't crash. It was an unprofessional, but still fucking hilarious comment. If he said that at the bar with friends he'd be the funniest mother fucker on Earth, but he said it on TV - which makes him "horrible" - but still fucking funny. Truly inappropriate would be saying something unrelated - like "He went down harder than Flight 93 / Twin Towers," because then hes not even being relevant or clever/witty.

Yeah, cause it's funny to laugh about someone's tragic death on the anniversary of when it happened. But I will thank you for spouting off what you learned in first year psychology. Karma is Steigerwald dying in a plane crash that lands on top of you

LOL Ok now I'm laughing about the Steigerwald comment. It's the headliner on Puck Daddy.

Video: Penguins announcer finds comedy in aviation fatalities
    By Greg Wyshynski

The Hobey Baker Award is given annually to the top male NCAA hockey player. Its namesake, Hobey Baker, was a star athlete between 1911-1914 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a pilot during World War I. Tragically, he died in a postwar plane crash in Toul, France in 1918, at age 26.

Funny stuff, right? At least it was to Pittsburgh Penguins announcer Paul Steigerwald of Fox Sports Pittsburgh, who cracked one of the most awkward on-air jokes in recent memory last night during their game against the New Jersey Devils.

For the video-less, a quick transcript:

Bob Errey: "The Hobey Baker winner went down, real hard. Our Subway sandwich of the game."

Paul Steigerwald: "Not as hard as Hobey Baker went down, though. He went down in a plane crash."

Then there's some muttering and giggling; with Steigerwald apparently realizing that he wasn't at the Friar's Club, saying he wasn't trying to make light of "how he left us," while asking Errey not to "start" as the laughing begins.

As Adam Gretz points out, Baker was actually killed 91 years to the day of Steigerwald's comment. Who says he doesn't have comedic timing?

Now, we're nearing a century removed from the incident, so it's not exactly "too soon" for this punchline. We were ready to excuse it, actually ... until reader John Mozena hit us on Twitter with the following: "Hobey was friends w/ my grandfather, flew in WW1 together. I'm not a PC/sensitive guy but I thought it was classless."

OK, fair enough. This is getting enough play to the point where an on-air apology during the next Pens' broadcast is likely.

For a minute I thought the Hawks might actually pull out overtime when Hossa scored late, bleh though. Would have been nice if the loss wasn't to someone else at the top of the west, but at least it wasn't a divisional game.

God that looks terrible lol. Good to see him come back from it anyhow, but I kind of wish I could find a video of all the blood he was dripping. I talked to my mom today and she said it was pretty disturbing to see.

Reminds me of the 2008 playoffs when that one dude on the Senators got rocked in the forehead with a slapshot. We were up in F section but could see blood very clearly... was kinda gross lol.

Considering it was only his nose it was a shocking amount of blood. I thought for sure the puck had clipped him in the forehead.

Yeah I'm just glad he's all right, but his nose is gonna be jacked for life now lol, welcome to hockey I guess. Would honestly suck to have him out, not just because of ending his long ass consecutive game streak, but also because he's been playing pretty well. Still can't hit the broadside of a barn if the net is empty, but hey, at least he's starting to get closer a lot more often. Still wouldn't mind trading him though, not because he sucks but I think we could get a real legitimate winger for Malkin.

I say that, but I'd be very surprised if he ever was traded. Any predictions for movement at the trade deadline Brill? I know it's a while off, but I'm bored. If the trade deadline was today, I wouldn't see us moving anything really, I think everyone's been doing their job pretty well -- even Adams.

Hmm. I honestly don't see them making a huge move unless there's some sort of monumental collapse. They may make a move to pick up some more depth up front, but I think on D they are set. Everyone's finally healthy. If they do make a move it probably will be one where they pick up another Connor James or someone like that. There's really no huge names out there that are going to be unrestricted free agents after this season so I don't even see anyone worth renting for the stretch run.
