I don't think it was because Fleury played all that poorly. The only goal that was really bad was the penalty shot. The others were because all of a sudden his defensemen seemed to vanish altogether. Buffalo should be thanking Lalime right now because if he wasn't in net the score would have been 22 - 4. He played phenomenally. Also on a sidenote, wtf at pulling Ryan Miller after giving up only three goals? No confidence in your goalie Lindy?

Ryan Miller giving up 3 is like normal goalies giving up 6, lol. He was obviously having an off night and flustered...wish Coach Q would have pulled Huet @ 3, we probably would have at least made overtime.

I like Ryan Miller, but I don't particularly understand why everyone rides his dick. He's a great player for sure but he's not the pinnacle of goaltending.

    ^ This

Call me when we have Dominik Hasek back!

Miller has been going downhill since he was named starting goalie for Team USA. It's also the last year of his contract, so I speculate he's gonna try REALLY HARD to get more money, then decline again.

I missed the game due to having a game of my own, but all I got was a text saying "4-3" and then some garble about Fleury's glove hand might as well be chopped off.

Brent Johnson tonight, PLEASE, is all I can say. Devils have had Fleury's number all season.

Fleury only plays good when he "gets up" for a game. He plays very average in net if hes not motivated, but if its a big game (Flyers, playoffs, etc) he seems to focus and actually give it his full attention and effort. Everything else in the middle he takes light heartedly (and he does way too much extra-cirricular stuff during the season).

I disagree. I thought Fleury played well last night. With the exception of the penalty shot goal he didn't let up a bad goal. The second goal by Stafford was from a rebound that the Pens defensemen thought wasn't important enough to clear. The goal by Gaustad was again due to the Penguins defense deciding to let Stafford waltz out in front Fleury for a wrap around backhand attempt that then made it to Gaustad who was left standing all alone right next to the right post.

Now onto the last goal which I'm sure is what your friend was referring to Fleury's glove hand about. Fleury squared up and was out of the net, Pominville just made a fantastic shot. With how far Fleury was out of the net, there was absolutely no way humanly possible that he could have gloved it. As it stands he still got a piece of it with his left shoulder. First thing they teach a goalie is to square up to the shooter. Fleury did that, don't blame Fleury for what was a fantastic shot by Pominville. Credit where it's due.

Miller has been going downhill since he was named starting goalie for Team USA. It's also the last year of his contract, so I speculate he's gonna try REALLY HARD to get more money, then decline again.
Hmm, I could have sworn Miller was signed through the 2013 - 2014 season? Ah here it is. I don't know if this is correct or not but this is what I found. Bear in mind it's from Wikipedia because I'm too lazy to look anywhere else.

On July 18, 2008, Miller signed a five-year contract extension worth $31.25 million[2] with the Sabres that will keep him in Buffalo through the 2013–14 season. The contract will take effect at the start of the 2009–10 season, as Miller still has a year left on his prior contract.

I disagree with you Brill. I can't recall a game where the Penguins came out and dominated like they did last night for the first half of the game. Not sure of the actual numbers but I'm willing to bet the Penguins had triple the amount of time in the offensive zone than the Sabres. Fleury lost that game for them.

I can understand where you're coming from Ivaden. But part of controlling the entire game is playing responsibly in your own end. Which the Penguins did not do last night. If we want to be ticky tacky I can say that Fleury was definitely responsible for the penalty shot goal and partly responsible for Pominville's goal(better positioning may have knocked it aside rather than deflecting it.) Even then that still leaves the two goals where the Sabres basically had free shots on garbage rebounds the D either didn't clear or didn't put the body on them.

Love you guys to death(in a total gay way) but I've noticed a pattern with you and Sep. When the Penguins are winning it's all about the boys up front. When the Pens lose it's always Fleury. Nobody says anything about him when we win but most times when we lose he's blamed. I'll admit Fleury has given up bad goals, but to say flat out that Fleury lost that game last night is ridiculous at best. If you're holding Fleury accountable for obvious defensive lapses that's misguided at best. Fleury gave up two goals. The defense gave up the other two.

Is anyone else incredibly uninterested in the Winter Classic matchup now?...and the Flyers lamed the shit out of a chance to make a sweet alternate jersey. I like the B's one at least.

I keep hearing that Chara might not be playing. He's going to be too busy posing naked with Sean Avery.

ugh lol that just further removes any interest

in other news, I think Canada is playing thing smart as fuck, just importing the full lines of Thornton/Marleau/Heatley and Keith/Seabrook, instant chemistry without practice...

Thanks, I didn't know he signed a new contract. I only knew about his current contract that ends this year.

I didn't realize Finland was so deep in goaltenders, I guess Niemi won't have a shot after all, lol. Kiprusoff/Backstrom is a damn nice 1-2.

Slovakia has some big names too, Hossa/Kopecky from the Hawks, Gaborik, Halak, Visnovski...they didn't say a ton about Sweden's team, hoping that Hjalmarsson gets a nod there, he's incredibly underrated imo.
