After rewatching it I'm going to have to say that this kid needs suspended for the rest of this season. It was a blatantly deliberate attempt to injure another player. And he has a history of it. Want hits like this to stop? Make an example of someone.

Yeah everything I've seen points to them suspending him the whole season, I think they did on some other kid who did something similar this year. Rough month for Canadian Junions.

It starts at the top down, same thing with the NFL and their concussions - does the NHL have legal grounds to ban him for life for things he didn't do at an NHL event?

I'm all for life-bans for repeat offenders of serious offenses like this, be it at the minors/AHL level or at the NHL.

Athletes think they're something special. This bullshit, all the riff-raff in the NFL, Gilbert Arenas and his guns. Leagues (and sponsors) need to start dropping SERIOUS hammers. Ironically, Tiger Woods has gotten the most press and the worst rap for probably the least offense of Pacman Jones (circa 2007ish), Gilbert Arenas, Dany Heatley, and then this chump. Granted he makes/made the most, but the others actions all involve potentially ending people's lives or at the very least, permanently disabling them. On or off the court, you endanger someone's well being as a result of an intentional, personal disregard for them, you should be banned from your sport.

Its just a shame what happens to athletes like the defenseman there. I really feel bad when I hear stories about these sort of injuries (or just chronic injury from years of physical play like what happens to NFL players' brains) because they get forgotten and ignored - and worst yet, unlike soldiers who are seen as brave and heroic, recieve disability assistance, and suffered their disfigurement or trauma for something worthwhile - these athletes suffer and fade away into a miserable late adulthood and early death simply for our entertainment.

Another question for you guys who play regularly, if any of you guys wear glasses any of you have recommendations for non-contacts vision solutions? I've seen the sport-goggle type of glasses but everyone I've seen who used them complained about them fogging up, right now I'm just wearing my glasses but 1) they're expensive and I don't want to break them and 2) I'd like to put the cage back on my helmet since I don't have dental insurance.

I wear contacts normally but lost one a week and half ago and my replacements still haven't come in, so I've been wearing my glasses for regular stuff. Last night was our first game and I wasn't gonna wear my glasses since I don't use a cage or shield, just wore the one contact and ended up having a hell of a game lol. Had 2 goals and 1 assist I know if, might have been credited with one other one but I didn't look at score sheet.

If you don't have contacts, not really left with too many options other than wear a cage to cover the glasses, or wear nothing and be semi blind lol. Not sure how the sports goggles would work, never used them and I don't see anyone in my league that uses them.

I'm getting contacts to start, but yeah losing one on ice or taking a shot to the eye with them in was a concern. The cage is just a bit too small to wear while still keeping the glasses on, plus adjusting them through it would be total ass. I'm pretty fucking blind or I'd just go without them, I'd need the puck to light up like old Fox games.

its actually the media. this guy from the inquirer has a hard-on for richards and is asking him about shit off the ice instead of the actual games. the writer is some south jersey high school reporter who's trying to get into hockey now and he's just being a douche. he keeps bringing up the lupul trade and insinuating that they "party" too much.

its more richards acting like a baby to the writer and not the media. the guy asked a question and richards ignored it, then the other guy who writes for csnphilly asked the same exact thing and he answered it. he's pretty much just being a dick to one guy

I got the sense that Richards was somewhat leading the media on, almost goading them. When, he could, just keep things simple and take the "high road" by simply saying "no comment" or "next question" I was reading something on Yahoo...and from what they put up it seemed like he'd give an answer -- but be really vague about it, and refuse to follow up. I could see from a media standpoint why that would be taken as a challenge.

But then again -- we're getting all this through the media -- so take it for what it's worth.

Yeah lol I saw that on Facebook. No way in hell am I going to it though, not worth the hour drive to Pittsburgh, not to mention there's plenty of wannabe guido in Slippery Rock that I've more than had enough exposure to those faggots to make me have no interest in that.

However, if it was guaranteed that Snooki would get knocked the fuck out there, I would probably go to see that.
