Kunitz better be on fire when he comes back because the Kings can throw a lot more at Carolina for a Whitney rental than the Pens can throw at them. The East playoff situation right now is freaking sick. Ottawa wins 10-11 straight with Spezza back, Washington 12 straight, Devils get Kovalchuk to go with Parise, Pens always in the hunt, it sounded like Jokinen dominated the game last night with the NYR, I feel like the Pens had a 1-in-3 to 1-in-2 shot at making it to the SCF 10 days ago and now everything just went crazy and I'm left thinking our odds are 20% at best as I picture the announcer guy in "Not Another Team Movie" saying "wham, bam, what the fuck just happened?"

First off, Bergfors is not a 30 goal scorer waiting to happen. He's fallen off the face of the Earth the last two months. He's got to prove he can play the whole season. Considering most players deal with the "sophomore slump" I just don't see him doing much at least until his third season, which will also make him a UFA if I'm not mistaken. Oduya I've never been quite sold on. He's a solid enough defenseman but come on, if you can't cut it with a defensive minded team like New Jersey how are you going to cut it with Atlanta. In the end Kovalchuk is most likely going to be a rental and Atlanta was at least able to get two players that can step in right now with a few years on the books. To be honest, it seems to me that Atlanta kind of took a little bit of a lesser deal than they probably could have received from one of the bigger teams out there(Kings - Frolov etc.)

Just got home from Verizon, another win for the Caps tonight, although the Kovalchuk-less Thrashers should have been a cake walk they allowed 45 shots on goal. Turns out giving Theo the night off was a pretty good move, Neuvirth got first star honors.

And yes, walking home from the metro fucking sucked. Can't believe we're getting another two-foot blizzard.
