Lot of upsets tonight. Bruins and Sharks both crash and burn. Craig Anderson (my fantasy goalie <3) looked great. Calgary beat out the Canucks who every columnist has a hard on for. Very happy with tonight's outcomes.
Why is everyone all about Vancover this year?
Luongo always makes them competative. But hasn't the rub on them been their lack of consistent scoring outside of the Sedins? From what I scanned of their roster, looks like some young forwards are developing. But really? Much better teams in the west.
Very happy with tonight's game. After hearing all summer about how Knuble would be on the top line, they rolled with Ovie-Backstrom-Semin most of the night and they looked great. Theodore had an easy time in goal but didn't let in any softies. I know it's only one game but it feels good to be back.
It's a shame my fantasy team didn't fare as well, Nabokov WRYYYYYYYYYYY
Well i was sad about the habs performance yesterday, we won Thanks to Carey Price awsome performance (3 goals in like 46 shots)
The new guys Moen and Gionta still played an awsome game, while (i know i know) gill sucked ass he lost the puck in our territory which gave the first goal to the Leafs
ah well we will take this win still
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It's so nice to be vindicated after just one game. Just wait until he tries to get to the puck from behind the line and an opposing forward is at center ice. He loses. Every single time. I can only imagine the things that will be said about him throughout the season lol.while (i know i know) gill sucked ass he lost the puck in our territory which gave the first goal to the Leafs
They already started yesterday talking shit about him
"I think that gainey took him just because he won the cup but what gainey forgot is that gill played OK due to beeing with Scudery which is one of the most underated Def in the league"
If you're in the Chicago market....Hawks vs Panthers at 11 am cst live from Finland. On tv on Comcast but if you're at work and not able to watch it (like me), it's on 560 AM WIND. God how I missed hockey! Go Hawks!
On a side note, I know it's just one game so far but the Avs looked pretty good last night against the Sharks.
I think most of the people that have hard ons for Vancouver are the same ones who said they wouldn't make the playoffs at all last year. So when they ended up getting the division title everyone suddenly started thinking they're better than they really are.
With Detroit losing some decent players and San Jose being choke artists most writers decided to go with Vancouver doing well this season. I still think Vancouver is competitive but I agree there are better teams on paper in the west.
Can i give up my pool already?
Kessel injured till November
Markov Injured for 3-4months
/sigh time to unbench Mark eaton
You won't regret it Rata. You'll ride on Eaton's coat tails all the way to the finals! Or at least Sepukku will think so![]()
Andrei Markov is already hurt for the majority of the season? Well the Habs are DEFINITELY sunk now. I think I have him on one of my fantasy teams... gonna have to drop him.
Also. ESPN is already sucking AO's dick. Again. Please. Playoff games AO has won: Um like 10, maybe? Playoff games Crosby/Malkin have won: 31 apiece. Only game I saw on Sportscenter this morning was BOS-WAS and all they shown was AO's highlights. They showed both his goals, the one Laichs goal he didn't get an assist on but set the play up throwing it behind the net, and they showed him hit Mark Recchi. Why didn't they show the other stuff? Or the other games? Fuck you Matt Barnaby, you mediocre piece of crap, Buffalo Sabres piece of garbage can't even beat the Dallas Stars you jabroni.
God I can't stand Barnaby. Hated him as a player and he's even worse as an "analysis." He doesn't know what he's talking about half the time and I always joke that he wouldn't know his left skate from his right one. Need to reteam up Barry Melrose and John Buccagross like back in the NHL 2Nite days...
John Buccigross is the man, he still writes for the NHL page on ESPN.com, and he is usually the telecaster who introduces the brief, sparse NHL segments on Sportscenter, but Barnaby needs to go.
Noon SC had Melrose break the game down better, talked about Laich more than Ovie actually, and I saw highlights from the other games. But it's going to be a long season if you rage this hard this early. Does the hype machine/influx of commercials for Adrian Peterson bother you as much as for Ovie because he hasn't done anything in the playoffs either? Don't make me play the Ted Williams/Dan Marino card.
But yeah, Barnaby is pretty terrible. Thank God for NHL Network.
Football/Basketball doesn't bother me as I've grown accustomed to watching mainly-black athletes forget that they're a part of a team and just showboat to all hell and do as many endorsements as possible to maximize their $$$ & ego. But hockey is typically a blend-in team-first sport and people like Sean Avery and AO break the mold and really go against the mantra of the sport.
Well I can somewhat understand Sepukku's rage. Though I do think it's a bit early to be this...uh...ragey? The problem is that Espn sticks with whoever is hot. And rightly so. AO played last night and had a good night. I would be shocked if they weren't riding his cock the next day. It's just part of the system. If Malkin did it on a night that AO wasn't playing, they would do the same. Not to spark this debate up again, but the only thing that irritates me is when people say that he's flat out, the best player in the league.
I will freely admit and argue against anyone who doesn't believe AO is in the top two when it comes to the ability to impact a game. But I can't agree that he's the best. After having watched Evgeni Malkin go from being burnt out in the playoffs the year before, regular season scoring leader to the Conn Smythe trophy winner and Stanley Cup champion, I have to say Malkin is number one in the league. Not to belittle AO's accomplishments, league MVP is nothing to scoff at. But until he gets his name on that cup, he's going to be second to Malkin. Malkin is able to dominate offensively while still being a force defensively. AO is one of the most dynamic offensive players the league has ever seen, but he's just not as strong defensively.
That being said, I firmly believe Espn will ride the cock of whichever player has a better night in the league. Jarome Iginla doesn't make the NHL money sadly outside of Canada. It's the Crosby's, Ovechkin's, Malkin's in the league. They are marketed as the future and the faces of the NHL for years to come. And rightly so. I can honestly say we should feel lucky to be able to watch hockey at a time when this many amazing players are just coming into the league.
It's exciting to think about what these kids can do when they hit the prime of their careers.

Taylor Swift and Alex Goligoski? If my homie can get her, I'm sure I can pull Selena Gomez, right?
For non-Pittsburghers who can't recognize faces:
[Left to right]: Max Talbot, Jordan Staal, Taylor Swift, Alex Goligoski, Tyler Kennedy
Wtf is Max wearing? It looks like a color wheel exploded on him.
