Also, I'm not even a Pittsburgh fan, I used to support the Canadiens when I followed the NHL. If you don't want "hockey bandwagoners" in your precious thread then don't talk about Olympic hockey! i would say Sepukku is the only one who showed super patriotism with wanting the US to win. not that i wanted them to lose, but seeing Canada win doesnt upset many people, i would presume.

Women's Hockey is like Women's Basketball, noncompetitive and unnecessary. Seriously, the IOC should get rid of Women's Hockey from the Olympics until teams other than US and Canada can even compete, that was an embarrassment. Plus, wtf at no checking in Women's hockey? What do they do, ask politely if they can have the puck?

The IOC has already said that if the 3rd+ places don't become less distant by 2012 Women's Hockey is most likely out, though Finland/Sweden have made some pretty big strides in the last few years. China...not so much improvement, but it can't be a particularly popular women's sport over there.

the sad thing is they know how to play, it just comes down to the physics of it. they simply aren't strong enough to shoot the puck with any velocity. especially for the chinese. hell, their men cant even shoot the puck hard i bet.

but they do know how to play, as far as PP set ups, penalty killing, cycling and forecheck systems. its just a matter of executing with some strength behind it. just cant be done

It certainly wasn't for a lack of trying lol, I watched several of China's games because they had fun names to hear the announcers say, they were skating hard but it just didn't happen

Chelios being called up doesn't surprise me. When the Wolves signed him they said at the time they had no room to bump him up to Atlanta (The Wolves parent team) but as the season went on and there were injuries and trades, they would revisit him moving from AHL to NHL.

The dude can still play, and he doesn't care about his legacy, as he was shown by playing in the AHL just so he could skate. Sure he's not as good as he once was but he holds his own. I'll always have a place in my heart for Chelios, even after he got traded to Detroit from Chicago, I grew up watching the guy. I still have a Chelios Hawks jersey from when he was the captain too lol.

Khabibulin's DUI charge elevated to "extreme" DUI. D'oh!

EDMONTON -- Nikolai Khabibulin has been handed an additional charge for a driving under the influence incident in Arizona.

The Edmonton Oilers goaltender is now charged with extreme DUI, with is automatic if a person's blood alcohol level is higher than .15.

The elevated charge by law enforcement officials in Arizona was reported by CTV Edmonton on Monday.

J.J. Hebert, a spokesman for the Oilers, said the hockey club won't be commenting on the case, which is now before the courts.

He also refused to answer any questions about whether this latest development will affect the goalie's hockey career with Edmonton.

Khabibulin, 37, was arrested after a black Ferrari was seen speeding down a street in Scottsdale Feb. 8.

Police allege the vehicle was travelling at an estimated 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour), when the speed limit along that stretch of road is 45 (72 km/h).

Khabibulin has also been charged with excessive speed.

He joined the Oilers in the off-season after stints with the Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes and the Winnipeg Jets, as well as a run with the Tampa Bay Lightning that included a Stanley Cup win in 2004.

The Oilers had high hopes for the Russian and signed him to a US$15-million, four-year deal. But he has missed most of the season with back problems and had season-ending surgery for a herniated disc in January.

I don't understand why the Pens are interested in Raffi Torres at all. If I was going to make a move for anyone on Columbus' roster it would be for either Umberger or Vermette.

Your reference to track and field isn't valid because people have a legitimate shot at winning, where as women's hockey has no competition that is not named Canada or United States. That's where the IOC is mad and getting involved. When I watched the US play China, I swear it looked like they taught the Chinese women how to skate and then just put them out on the ice. They were just standing still and looked like they had no place out there. Everyone assumed the women's gold game would be between US/Canada, why bother having a sport that will just have the same two countries every year and all the other women's teams are just for filler spots?
