just because Crosby doesnt line people up and make open ice hits doesnt mean he isnt physical. Crosby can grind the corners way better than Ovechkin.

^ This. In the Caps/Pens series last year, I saw a lot from Crosby that I didn't expect. I swore then that I wouldn't belittle him or call him names from that point on. Dude's earned some respect.

Got to be honest, the Coyotes thoroughly outplayed and outworked the Penguins last night. They frustrated them at every step of the way. There were only a few moments where the Pens actually played up to their capacity. Ugly game for the Pens. I kind of had a feeling it was going to be rough when Cooke takes a penalty 40 seconds into the game. Then Malkin takes a double minor. It was surprising to see the zebras call as many penalties as they did last night. Seemed like half the game was spent with one team being shorthanded. It made for a very boring to watch game. Everytime the action picked up a bit the whistle blew. Crosby took a few bad penalties that he shouldn't have. I mean come on, you're going to slash a guy as he skates by? What did you think was going to happen.

As to Datsyuk. I can't argue he's a phenomenal player. But the problem with Datsyuk is that he plays within a very structured system and let's be honest, he just doesn't have the gamebreaking ability like Ovie, Malkin, and Crosby do. Datsyuk is top five right now. But until he finally cracks a hundred points in a season I think most people are going to leave him out of top player discussions.

And WTF at that Gill fight? Gill never once dropped his gloves here in Pittsburgh. I guess it takes a guy under six feet to get him to go. Doesn't want to mess up that pretty face of his lol.

Gonna call it right now - Pens lose tonight in Philly. Went to the Coyotes game, couldn't have been more upset on my way out. Sort of. The actual game itself was the most crooked bullshit I've ever seen. The refs sucked balls, but the Pens were playing sloppy and uninspired. Like the refs sucked so bad that they alone could've caused us to lose even if we were playing good, but we were playing so bad we still would've lost even if the refs were calling things straight.

Good things though were:
--Mousepad giveaway with Pens 2009-2010 schedule on it.
--In the student rush line, everyone got a free AE Student Rush hoodie and they are NICE.
--8-10 Pens rolled up in SUVs around 5pm and got out about 100 pizzas and handed them to everyone in line :D Not even just the shitty support players like Godard and Dupius, they had some good stars there yesterday like Kunitz and Fleury. They'll never send Crosby/Malkin for that, but it was still pretty sweet.

Meh I can't complain about the refs last night. There were only two calls I saw made against the Pens that were questionable. The rest of the calls are ones that are usually ignored but because it's the start of the regular season they always have their one month "crackdown" before things get back to normal. The Pens just played like shit because it was Phoenix and they were already looking ahead to Philadelphia. Still should be a good game tonight. I don't know if I'm going to be able to watch most of it. I have pinball league in the Southside tonight because I don't want to go to league on Friday night. If anyone's bored come down to the Beehive, I'll be the tall guy wearing the backwards Pens hat by the pinball machines.

He was like the only one hustling and regularly contributing to both the offensive and defensive sides. Not to mention he spent like 15+ minutes on the penalty kill.

More thoughts on the game:
--Wicked shot by Goligoski. Too bad Jovanaski is a diver and the ref is his buttbuddy.
--BRILLIANT play by Letang to end the game, perfect conclusion to a perfect evening, what the fuck was he doing.
--Its not an even-up call when the initial penalty negated a goal in addition to them recieving a minor.
--Can't win when the other team has ~20 minutes of power play time.
--This being said, the minor penalty by Orpik that led to the killing 2nd goal was not the refs fault. I was on the opposite end and I could see the hook from there.
--Brent Johnson was a beast and can't be blamed for the loss. Neither of the goals against him were his fault. Can't fault him for that wicked perfect shortside shot on the 1st goal, and the 2nd goal was just brilliant, dude shot it laying down on the ice.


OH: And maybe only the Pens fans lurking here can appreciate this, but:
Gary Roberts was in the building and they put him on the jumbotron from whatever box he was in and he recieved the loudest standing ovation I've ever heard that lasted like 2 full minutes, even once play resumed. Amazing. And people were singing the National Anthem? That was badass. I always wished that would catch on in America.

It still strikes me as peculiar that Gary Roberts has become such a huge cult sports figure. He wasn't here very long, he contributed a little bit, but not enough to garner such a huge following. It's just another example of Pittsburgh falling in love with an athlete for reasons such as "He looks scary!" This is why I love Pittsburgh lol there's no rhyme or reason here.
