Sports Betting Time!!
So Wednesday has some juicy looking games. Wanted to get some opinions on picks. Probably gonna drop 10-20 bucks on three of the easiest on paper and then another 10 on all five for the bigger payout.
1. NY Rangers vs LA kings Pick: NY
2. Pit Penguins vs Car Hurricanes Pick: Pit
3. Edm Oilers vs Chi Blackhawks Pick: Chi
4. Nsh Preds vs Dal Stars Pick: Flip a coin
5. Min Wild vs Ana Ducks Pick: Ana
Three picks: NY, Pit, Chi
Thoughts?
Thinking LA will beat NY. Just a suspiscion, they're no joke this year...
No not at all, Theo has looked great which is all the more surprising when you consider what the guy's been through this summer. It sounds weird to say a team that's lost four straight has gotten good goaltending, but we've lived in the penalty box and our grind lines aren't getting any results. And yeah Neuvirth's been dinged up but should be back soon, I would love to see him and Varly trade starts in Hershey until someone emerges. I had no special love for Brent Johnson, but he let us keep our kids in the AHL learning the position instead of one of them holding Theo's water bottle.
Re: the Orioles, it's really hard for me to see them without thinking about Angelos, and he worked so hard to keep baseball out of DC for so long, I just despise him. I don't have any feelings about the actual O's, past or present.
Haha, Buffalo owning the shit out of Detroit.
I'm sad that I got home for the 3rd period of the Sabres game...but I'm happy at the score I see!
I'm sure Selamis is with me, the only thing greater for me than seeing the Hawks doing well, is seeing the Wings get beat down.
Vanek "out for weeks". Ouch.
Funny fantasy stat: Only tuesday evening and i already have an 18 point gap in +/- (+9 to -9). Team Beartato got big boost from the BUF and COL onslaughts last night though.
How weak is the East right now? The SE division has always been a bit of a joke, with Carolina and Washington stumbling out the gate the Lightning are actually on top. The NE isn't as bad, Buffalo looks pretty solid at top, but Ottawa is midline and the Bruins are struggling as well. The Atlantic looks pimped but thats about it.
Compare it to the West where each Division is pushing pretty strong. In the NW the Avalanche are the surprise of the season so far, while Calgary isn't doing horribly despite their ups and downs.. Kings have looked great in the Pacific where Sharks are faltering a bit, and Coyotes aren't as horrible as predicted either. In the Central Colombus looks great and Chicago looks solid too.
Just seems the average team in the West is a lot stronger than the average in the East.
Atlantic division seems to be the only one that year in and year out is pretty competitive. The other two aren't usually nearly as close. And back to what we were talking about Ishido. I definitely understand your point when it comes to some of those guys being fourth line pluggers and agitators. But I personally think that by keeping someone along the lines of Maltby or Holmstrom playing as much as they do, the Wings are shooting themselves in the foot by not giving that playing time to the youngsters they have down in Grand Rapids a chance to play.
That's a bit of a double edged sword though. Do you take the 22 year old winger out of Grand Rapids where he's playing 15 - 20 minutes a night and then plunk him on the third line where he might get 10 minutes tops? I think it's worth the risk. Look at Abdelkader and Helm for example. Neither one of them were expected to jump in and contribute much when they played in the playoffs. I think that both of them proved they are ready to play regularly in the NHL and would be able to contribute.
I'm not knocking the older guys who still contribute quite a bit(Cleary, Lidstrom, etc) but I will say that the Maltby's and Holmstrom's are doing nothing more than taking up roster space. Yes they can pass on their wealth of experience to the younger guys, but when they are taking minutes away from them things need to change.
Long story short. Detroit has the experience, familiarity, and talent to make another deep run into the playoffs. But I think they are going to come up short if they match up against the Blackhawks or another similarly up tempo, speedy team now that they are also getting Stanley Cup playoff experience.
Detroit makes conference semifinals at best. Too many good teams in the West this year, even if they have a past history of falling short of expectations in the postseason. Only two of the following teams can make it to the conference finals:
Flames
Sharks
Hawks
Red Wings
....can't help but think but the Red Wings are going to be one of the odd men out.
So how about those Maple Leafs!
Lost their only 2 goalers already, 0 wins AND, Komisarek caused them to loose yesterday lol
Can't say its much different than what I expected! I expected them to beat the Pens the other day cause Jason Blake is "Penguin Killer, Extrordinaire" but other than that, they're a terrible team.
Can't help but feel bad for Toronto. Then I remember I hate Toronto. Then I laugh heartily at their expense. I think it's hilarious that they hate Toskala so much. Apparently they don't realize that Toskala can't really play well when he has no defense in front of him at all.
I find it hard to hide my joy in Toronto's struggles, it's not the team, it's Brian Burke. He's hailed as the Bill Parcells of hockey for no reason whatsoever and I like seeing him go down in flames.
Also, Bluejackets are off to a hot start and we're not really even playing as well as I think we can. I know it's early, but I have high hopes for this season.
Brian Burke is a fucking asshole. Google Peter Zezel for verification.
