Brodeur is too high on the list, he has the most wins all time but will never again have the best stats as a goaltender. Nor will he had significantly more wins than others, I don't think NJ will be a powerhouse moreso than some other teams with good goalies this year. Nabokov probably slightly lower. Osgood is extremely iffy because he will be sharing starts with the Wings' second goaltender (though more weighted in his favor this year, probably 75-25) and I suppose could be decent given the team he is behind for wins. His stats will probably be very average though.

Depending on how wins are weighted I would barely consider Bryzgalov and Lehtonen, Khabi and Rinne are iffy as well depending on wins. I guess maybe move Backstrom down a bit as well if wins are a big stat.

Cristobal Huet could be a wildcard, I don't expect anything good from him but he's in a good spot behind a team that a lot of people think is stacked for the cup.

Nothings weighted. Every stat is worth an equal amount in Yahoo H2H. Osgood is really low cause frankly, hes always very pedestrian-like in the regular season. That, and I expect Detroit to take a small step down this year.

Tyche was too afraid of the backlash from everyone who posts in the NFL thread to lock it compared to the other sports. For example, the fact that I was the only one who questioned him privately why the NFL remained opened while others that were just as active (and actually had things to discuss compared to him showing off Miami Dolphin wallpapers), just confirmed to him that no one really cared about the NHL thread being locked. We don't have an off-season to discuss, guys.

Also, the first game I go to this year I'm definitely making a NO BEATON MARK EATON sign. Will let you guys know which game that is to look for it on FSN. :D

Bluejackets signed Brassard to a 4 year extension today, got him locked up for ~3mil a season through 2015. Word is that they're going to start negotiating with Vermette next.

I was agreeing with that, Osgood is far from the best goalie during the regular season, if he started every game I might expect him to get more wins that some of the other guys but that is not the case.

    2. Roberto Luongo
    3. Mikka Kipprusoff (dipped stats bounce back up with new coach, d-line)
    4. Evgeni Nabokov
    5. Tim Thomas (he'll remain good, but you can't catch lightning in a bottle twice)
    6. Niklas Backstrom
    7. Tomas Vokoun (had a silent, but very strong year for the Panthers in 08-09)
    8. Henrik Lundqvist
    9. Steve Mason (rookies are a little tentative, need to prove themselves consistent)
    10. Cam Ward
    11. Pekka Rinne (amazing goalie, poor team)
    12. Ryan Miller
    13. Marc Andre Fleury
    14. Chris Osgood
    15. Nik. Khabibulin (good goalie, but only getting older - and EDM is a step down from CHI)
    16. Ilya Bryzgalov
    17. Kari Lehtonen
I'd rate Lundqvist a bit higher, he's known for carrying the Rangers a lot. Also some goalies have a lot better Defense in front of them than others, which needs to be taken in account. I'd rate Cam ward higher than Vokoun and Navokov too, and possibly Pekka Rinne more too. But in terms of pure stats, also look at the teams that have the best defense in front of good goalies too.

Thomas should be 4th and Henrik should be 5th at worst. He carries a team with a shitty defense (save for the number pair of Staal and Girardi). And Brodeur at number one makes me vomit, hes still good but Luongo is better, as are Lundqvist, Thomas, and Kipper

    Thomas and Osgood too high.

Even tho he had a bad season Price should be higher then Brizgalov and other. (i<m not saying he needs to be first but imo he should be on the list even if last).

as for osgood, i am not a osgood hater, but season wise he is kinda bad so

    Mine would be like this

    1. Martin Brodeur
    2. Roberto Luongo
    3. Evgeni Nabokov
    4. Mikka Kipprusoff
    5. Henrik Lundqvist
    6. Niklas Backstrom
    7. Tomas Vokoun (had a silent, but very strong year for the Panthers in 08-09)
    8. Steve Mason
    9. Cam Ward
    10. Marty Turco
    11. Pekka Rinne (amazing goalie, poor team)
    12. Ryan Miller
    13. Marc Andre Fleury
    14. Carey Price
    15. Nik. Khabibulin
    16. Tim thomas (too random)
    17. Letohnen

People... the regular season starts in 4 weeks. I can't get over that fact. And in like 6 days.... it'll be 3 weeks away. And so on and so forth.

Anyone keeping up with the Traverse City tourney? The prospects from Detroit, Dallas, St Louis, Columbus, Atlanta, NY, Minnesota, and Carolina are all there. Pretty cool looking at the future faces of your team.

St Louis looks pretty strong, they beat the Stars 9-6 and had some really well crafted plays.

    Minnesota beat Columbus 2-1.

    Detroit beat Atlanta 6-4.

    Carolina beat NY 5-3.

Today's rounds starting up in a few minutes.

BK you're taking me to every game, thanks. Unless every moron in my family learns that liking the Devils is bad and buying season tickets that aren't Rangers tickets is worse.

The fact that you have Devils fans in your family makes me say no.

Someone say goalie rankings? Then I too shall toss my hat into the ring.

    1. Miikka Kiprusoff - Solid year in and year out. The guy is a workhorse and is capable of completely taking over a series and making it his own.

    2. Roberto Luongo - His only achilles heel is the fact that he, and the Canucks, seem to fold late in the playoffs. They remind me a lot of the Sharks.

    3. Cam Ward - The system the Hurricanes play compliments Ward's abilities. He's almost never caught out of position and is one of the most reliable goalie's in the league.

    4. Henrik Lundqvist - I think of Lundqvist as Kiprusoff with a less talented team. If he had the defense in front of him, Lundqvist would be a perennial Vezina candidate.

5 .Tim Thomas - I hesitated to put Thomas up this high. He's a journeyman who has had one stellar season. If he continues to play like he did last year, the Bruins will have another monster year. If he regresses and plays like he normally would, they will be fighting for the 8th seed.

    6. Martin Brodeur - Age is catching up with Marty. He won't be a statistical powerhouse anymore but he will give the Devils a chance to win every night, except against the Penguins apparently. Who for some reason have a history of chasing him.

    7. Chris Osgood - I hate Osgood. During the regular season he's a borderline schmuck. But when it's playoff time Ozzie is out there every single game playing his ass off, making saves he has no business making. He's money in the playoffs and for that reason alone he's cracked the top ten.

    8. Marc-Andre Fleury - Despite winning the Cup last year, Fleury will still struggle to get respect in the league. He's a fantastic young goalie but he's still entirely too streaky. His puckhandling is probably the worst I've ever seen in a goalie. Fleury's biggest positive is that after the game he's already forgotten it and is getting focused on the next one. Not too many people can do that.

9.Nicklas Backstrom - I'm surprised he hasn't made more people's lists. Backstrom is a great goalie playing in a defense first system. The upside is he gives up very few goals. The downside is if he gives up two in a game with Minnesota's lack of offensive punch, he's probably going to lose.

    10. Evgenii Nabokov - The only reason I put him in the top ten is because of the sheer workload he has every single year. He plays his ass off the entire regular season and people wonder why he looks drained when the playoffs start. If the people in front of him could get their shit together for just one season, Nabokov is good enough to steal a series.

    11. Tomas Vokoun - The victim of playing for a garbage team. Vokoun would be a Vezina candidate if he played for anything playoff caliber team. He's solid and doesn't make many mistakes. If he played for a contender I would quickly move him up to the 8th spot and drop everyone else down one.

    12. Carey Price - Until this kid shows me something he's not cracking the top ten. He seems to be absurdly tough to beat in one game then seems lost out there the next. He's young and has the tools to be a damn good goalie for years to come. It remains to be seen whether he's tough enough to make it in Montreal with how notoriously tough they are on all their players.

    13. Ryan Miller - Injuries have slowed him down a little. He's still a great goalie, but with how much time he missed last year I hesitate to rank him any higher. At least not until he shows that he has bounced back.

    14. J.S. Giguere - Or should it be Jonas Hiller? If Giguere is 100% healthy, the starting job will be his. He's almost unflappable in the crease. If he comes back and is on top of his game, Anaheim will be very strong.

    15. Steve Mason - Another youngster. If he's able to play like he did last year for the entire season and playoffs, he will probably crack the top ten. The question is whether or not Columbus can get the talent to match his.

The problem with Lehtonen is that first off, he seems to be very fragile. Which admittedly is kind of surprising since he's a big guy. I think he's 6'4" which for a goalie is a rarity. Secondly, the team that plays in front of him is pretty subpar in most positions. Just looking at the defensemen alone, there's only one proven player in the bunch. When your most experienced player on D is Pavel Kubina, warning flares should be fired off.

The Thrashers have no real consistency. There's a bunch of young guys still learning their way around. But they do have the pieces in place. It's just a matter of developing them. Bryan Little came out of nowhere last year to pot over 30 goals. There was no reason to expect that kind of output from an undersized center especially after he scored 6 goals in 48 total games the year before.

As to their prospects, I really like Zach Bogosian and Evander Kane. I think both of them will excel in the league if management doesn't place unreal expectations on them. If they try to push their development along too quickly, both of them will end up like Alexander Daigle.

Should the defense improve and Lehtonen move past his injury prone days, he will be in the top fifteen. I don't see him cracking the top ten though.

Tomas Tatar is looking like a beast at the prospect tourney. 3 goals and an assist in 2 games, I'm looking forward to seeing him in a few years. He tore it up at the world juniors too.

Wait wait wait. Brill you're giving Luongo #2 because him and the canucks fold in the playoffs?? Kipper hasn't seen past the first round in years. Asides from that and maybe putting Lundquivst higher than Ward I agree with all of your picks.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree. Kipper is a great goalie and I expect him to be fantastic this year, but we (the Flames as an organization) have only gotten past the first round of the playoffs once since we won the cup in 89. Once. /Sigh.

Albeit that year that we did get past the first round (03-04), we made it to the finals. That has to count for something. Right? Right?

I wasn't including just the playoffs in my decision. Because let's face it, you don't make it to the playoffs it doesn't matter who your goalie is. Kipper and Luongo are both lights out during the regular season. I honestly think there aren't any better tenders than the two of them in the regular season. They consistently get their team into the dance. Yes they also consistently lose in the end. But I can't put someone like Lundqvist above them because while he's a phenomenal goalie, he hasn't surpassed either one of them yet. The only one I could even make that argument for is Ward since he's actually won a cup and consistently gets the Canes out of the first round. But by that reasoning then Marc-Andre Fleury should be number one or two because he's taken the Pens to the finals two years straight. Which is ludicrous.

Even going through the lists, who could you even attempt to argue as being the number one and number two? I could argue Luongo albeit halfheartedly. But not Kipper. Imo he's the number one goalie in the league and has been for some time now. Were he to play in a larger market more US media covered city he would probably be widely recognized as one of, if not the best goalie in the league right now.

Look at all the goalies in the league right now. There are some fantastic goalies out there like Lundqvist and Fleury for example. But there is also a very very small number of completely gamebreaking goalies out there like Luongo and Kipper.
