Um, Kunitz pretty much wrecked my face last night. Good on him though, about time he got rewarded for his effort. Three assists and a goal, awesome night for him.

Halak's first game against the Penguins, too, felt bad for him. I had a hunch though that Crosby was going to get a hat trick though, first goal I thought to myself, "I'm gonna see some hats tonight" and sure as shit I did.

Crosby's closing in on those Rangers!

I have two words that will sum up my amusement. Hal Gill. And that cashusloans.com thing has been showing up on my posts as well. I have no idea why but it's just recently started doing that.

Amusement? You gotta be off your rocker, he was playing as well as he was last year!

And damn was it good seeing it with him in a different sweater.

I am amused because he's not our problem anymore.

    Hanson is Rata's problem now.

    Also, interesting stat:
Alex Goligoski and Alexander Ovechkin are tied for the league lead in +/-

I didn't see the game -- what line did PAP play on?

He's already done more in one game than Higgins has done all season. For what it's worth, love Higgins' effort, BUT PUT SOME PUCKS IN THE NET!!!

and Gaborik missing a game doesn't concern me -- every other player not showing up against the Islanders -- that concerns me.

    It goes Alex P Keaton > Alex Ovechkin > Alex Semin > > > > > Alex Goligoski > Alex Rodriguez

Caps next three against the Thrasher (no Kovalchuk), the Islanders, and the Jackets.

The longest current winning streak is about to get longer woohoo.

And here is your daily Pens moment of Zen.

Well um DUH. We have the best record in the NHL. Also, don't discount the Blue Jackets, I remember a Mr. Mason shutting you guys out IN washington last year.

True, I hate everything from Ohio so I disregard the Jackets. But that's definitely a trap game in what should be a "soft" part of our schedule.

Well. Time to see if Crosbyjesus is able to elevate his game like Malkin has every single time he's been hurt.

Malkin to Miss 2-3 Weeks with Shoulder Strain - Pittsburgh Penguins - Features
Head coach Dan Bylsma announced Thursday that forward Evgeni Malkin will miss 2-3 weeks with a shoulder strain. It is not the same shoulder that kept Malkin out of the lineup during the beginning of the 2006-07 season and the team is being cautious.

"Geno is going to be out of the lineup for a couple of weeks," Bylsma said. "He strained his shoulder about 10 days or so ago. I don’t know the exact day. It is precautionary for the player. We are worried about the safety of the shoulder. A couple weeks of rest and rehab will get that thing healthy so he can get back onto the ice.

Befitting a player who had played 254 consecutive regular-season games through Wednesday's action, Malkin was naturally disappointed by the news.

"Obviously he has played with it and could gut it out, which is what Geno would be apt to do," Bylsma said. "At this time of the year the concern is the player and this is a precautionary measure."

Although disappointed, Malkin will accompany the Penguins on their trip to Columbus.

"I can play good, but it’s the early season," Malkin said about the injury. "I feel good. It’s not a big problem, and I’m fine. I’ll be watching and supporting the team on the trip. It’ll be fine."

"It’s okay. It’s not the pain. It feels good. It’s because it doesn’t feel comfortable now."
Sounds like it's a bit more than a precautionary/recuperative leave.

    Mmmmmbop?

Anyways, I heard Kunitz missed practice too, but I heard thats cause his wife fucked his brains out last night after he finally scored. Crosby might just break out for a massive assault, too. Columbus will be a tough game, but Minnesota is drowning in their inadequacies and Saturday should be a relatively easy 2 points.

Also, my professor suggested during a class today that within the next 50 years, sporting teams will be integrated by gender. What a joke - no doubt I can see women competing against men in golf, tennis, and even baseball, but could you imagine Brooks Orpik, Milan Lucic, or Cal Clutterbuck taking a girl into the boards? Or an even more absurd thought occured to me - fighting is in hockey. Hitting a girl is majorly frowned on in Western society, so could you imagine the dilemma of such a thing? Guys wouldn't want to fight them, but they'd suredly insist on picking a fight to prove themself, and then what? Can you imagine Donald Brashear going to town on a 5'7" girl's face? I was on my school's wrestling team back in the middle/high school days and while I personally never had to wrestle a girl, occasionally we'd run into a team that has a girl and whoever is in that girl's weight class unfortunately would have to wrestle her and there's this conundrum of you don't want to lose to a girl, but you don't want to look like you're brutalizing her. Also, where does this professor get these ideas? I don't think the US Women's Olympic team could even stand up to the Phoenix Coyotes or the Nashville Predators. Just some interesting points my friend and I discussed on our way out and then I continued thinking about to myself on my drive back up to my apartments.

There's a surprising Avalanche team that's 10-1-2 that'd argue that statement, but the Pens are #1 in the East.

50 years is a long time, but right now women have little to no chance of competing in any of those sports you mentioned. When Annika Sorenstam played on the PGA she was average at best, during a time that she was the best female golfer in the world. Tennis they have no chance, just the difference in service speed puts them at an extreme disadvantage. No idea about baseball but I would assume no female pitcher can reach proper velocities for pitching and am not entirely sure about batting.

In the NHL usually the lesser players are some kind of grinder type role, which I absolutely can't see given some of the guys you have playing that role right now. If there was some phenomenally talented girl I could see her playing, but it seems like it would be the same as Hudler pretty much - lots of skill, but doesn't have the size or strength for board play or to muscle defenders at all.

edit: The Avs are good but are riding Anderson for their success right now. Not saying the rest of the team isn't doing anything, but the guy let in 1 goal on 49 shots vs the Wings on Saturday, if he has a slump they will not look as amazing, moreso since Budaj is out with the flu so his backup would be their 3rd string.

Avalance have played 13 games, Pens 12. If Pens win they're 13th game, we're 11-2-0, which ties them in points but would hold the tiebreaker over 10-1-2.

While our dear friend Sepukku believes the NHL was invented the day that Cindy was drafted, our older readers may remember:

Manon Rhéaume - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No reason to believe we couldn't see another (better) female goalie. Or a female pitcher or position player in baseball. Or even a three point specialist in the NBA. I grew up playing basketball against a girl who played at Duke and later professionally in Italy (this was before the WNBA). She was 6 foot 3 and by far the best player in our school.
