I can honestly say that I am thrilled Ovechkin got hurt. The guy plays dirty. He has from the moment he came into the league. Everyone here knew it was only a matter of time before his shady antics ended up costing him. I've never been happy about anyone being injured but I hope he blew out his MCL. This fucking idiot needs to learn how to play the game. Maybe this will finally be the wake up call he needs to understand when you do dirty shit, people get hurt. Karma is a bitch. I can only hope it's a serious injury.

I've been too busy to post much lately, but of course I have to come back for this one.

I think he will be suspended, and I think he deserves it. And while the knee injury is looking not-so-serious (Post reporting he was seen walking, albeit limping, last night after the game), I hope the suspension takes place AFTER the injury, so he misses the maximum number of games. Something like five (on top of the injury) seems fair. The league needs to send a message, and they gotta get rid of this "we don't punish superstars" shit in a hurry. Let OV be the example, that's fine by me.

The only thing I regret is it just gives more fuel to the idiots who howl about OV being a dirty player. He's not dirty- he's just reckless and fucking stupid. Caps fans know this, and they're hoping he has finally learned his lesson. Stick to being the best goal-scorer in the league, as well as one of the most feared hitters, but play within the rules in order to better protect yourself. And for fuck's sake please stop giving Pens fans shit to cry about.

Well this is time to do the biggest hockey month this year.

This month will surely be hard for most teams, due to an already long injury list for alot of teams.

17games in 31 days for the habs is big and i'm sure most of the teams got a schedule like that.

Yeah scheduling is brutal this year. The Hawks have 19 separate instances of having to play back-to-back games, next closest team has like 13.

Also I love how hockey news today was all "Ovie injured in collision" not "Ovie nearly injures someone with knee-to-knee hit"

He's not dirty- he's just reckless and fucking stupid.

It's basically the same thing. The only difference is intent, some people think his mindset is actually, "Oh hey I'm going to crush that guy's knee while his head's down." I think he just doesn't know how to pull it back when he needs to. And that's part of the game, and he'll either learn how, or devolve into a pile of broken bones and torn ligaments.

Look, I'm the biggest Ovechkin apologist around, but this is bad. Normally I hate that most of Ovie's seemingly dirty hits are him just going full steam all the time, but look at all the factors. You just got ejected for boarding five days before that. You have history with knee-to-knee collisions (hi2u game four.) Earlier in the game there was a similar hit along the boards with Alzner and Corvo having their legs tied up and Alzner's skate cutting Corvo's calf. With all those things going on, you can't tell yourself not to try to demolish everyone on the ice? And this particular hit is one of his worst, he led with his knee, and while I understand Boudreau has to defend his superstar, it's as clear as day.

I really hope he's suspended (but unlike Brill I'm hoping for no blown MCLs) for at least three games. Shit's bad, man.

I am honestly not trying to come across as an apologist for this one. I think we're in agreement. This was uncalled for, dirty, and shitty. In my opinion it's the worst play of his yet. Not because he hurt himself, but because he needs to realize the focus is on him and his hurting reputation, and you don't really need to kill a guy on the Canes in November.

But to make him out to be Hines Ward or something is a bit much. He's not taking cheap shots at defenseless players. He's not Marty McSorley. I can't see how even the biggest OV hater can put him in that category.

And Callisto is right about the coverage. I can understand casual fans not realizing how dangerous the play was (and not knowing about the Gonchar hit which I defended at the time), but the hockey press isn't even up in arms about it. None of the NC or Canes news stories lead with anything suggesting a dirty play. Pretty odd.

And the Ballard thing won't work because OV's so fucking dense he would just break the stick with his head.

I think Burnside was the only hockey columnist I saw who described it as 'dirty' or even 'reckless'. The knee-on-knee thing is major too, I mean some teams are getting absolutely wrecked by stuff like this because of the injuries. How much do you think the Wings are missing Kronwall, who was taken out by the same kind of hit? The injury bug is already abound this year even without dirty/reckless plays, and it's not just NHL teams who are getting hurt by it, Olympic lineups are standing to get totally borked as well.

I will admit hoping for a severe injury is a bit much. But I'm looking at it from this perspective. Ovie is without a doubt in the top three greatest players in the world right now(other two Crosby/Malkin.) He is a dynamic scorer the likes that haven't been seen in a very long time. Hockey is just getting back to where it was before the lockout. Attendance is up and with players like Crosby and Ovie as the poster boys of the league, the future is looking good.

Until Ovechkin blows out all his knee ligaments because he just had to pull off another knee on knee hit. Thus depriving us the pleasure of watching future Pens/Caps playoff matchups. This guy is supposed to be one of the faces of the league. It's not going to help the NHL when said face of the league is turning into arguably one of the most notorious cheap shot artists in the game.

While I appreciate your thoughts on the matter, you can't sit there and defend Ovechkin's recent mental deficiencies that led him to making the last few decisions he did. Maybe time off due to an injury of his own recklessness/shady behavior will force that idiot to re-examine how he plays the game.

I've watched that video at least 20 times this morning and it's still not ceasing to be hilarious. Actually I'm honestly somewhat confused as to how the laceration happened, I don't really know anything about the inside of goalie helmets.
