Man smacks someones child in a store for crying

(CNN) -- A Georgia man allegedly slapped a toddler at a Walmart store because she wouldn't stop crying, authorities said.
Roger Stephens allegedly slapped a stranger's crying toddler in a Walmart store in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Roger Stephens allegedly slapped a stranger's crying toddler in a Walmart store in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Roger Stephens, 61, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree cruelty to children. An incident report obtained from police in Gwinnett County indicated Stephens did not know the 2-year-old girl he stands accused of hitting.

The confrontation happened shortly before noon at the Walmart in Stone Mountain, a suburb of Atlanta.

According to the arresting officer, the child's mother said her daughter was crying as they walked down one of the aisles.

The mother said a stranger later identified as Stephens approached them and said, "If you don't shut the baby up, I will shut her up for you." Video Watch what the stranger said »

A few moments later, while the mother and the crying child were in another aisle, Stephens allegedly grabbed the girl and slapped her across the face.

Police said he hit her four or five times. "See, I told you I would shut her up," the suspect allegedly told the mother.

Authorities described "slight redness" to the toddler's face. Before he was arrested, Stephens apologized to the mother for striking the girl, the incident report said.

Blunt force strike if it was my kid.

I've always loved that kind of parenting logic. "Hey, the kid is crying so let's smack the shit out of it to make it stop". Works everytime I'm sure.

4-year-old's shirt sets St. Paul dad on rampage

A St. Paul man is charged with a gross misdemeanor after he allegedly ripped a shirt off his four-year-old son and hit the boy for wearing a rival gang's color.

Kenny T. Jackson, 30, was charged with malicious punishment of a child in Ramsey County District Court, according to a criminal complaint dated Wednesday.

St. Paul police arrested Jackson on Tuesday afternoon after they responded to a 911 call from a home in the 500 block of Sherburne Avenue, the complaint said.

The unnamed caller, who said he was Jackson's stepfather, reported that Jackson was on drugs and "destroying the house." The stepfather said he was hiding in a bedroom because Jackson was yelling and throwing things, and he was afraid.

The caller said Jackson was angry because he is reportedly a Bloods gang member, and his son had been wearing a blue shirt, the color of a rival gang.

Jackson was breaking things in the house when police arrived, the complaint said. He fled on foot and tried to hide in the trunk of a car but was apprehended.

Police found the boy shirtless, scratched and crying. A 5-year-old in the house said Jackson had "whooped" the boy and two other children. Another child said the man was angry because the kids were wearing blue clothes, and that they couldn't eat because they were scared.

When questioned, Jackson denied the allegations and asked for an attorney, the complaint said.

On Thursday, a judge ordered Jackson not to contact the 4-year-old, according to Paul Gustafson, a spokesman for the Ramsey County attorney's office.

Court records indicate that Jackson was ordered last month to serve time in the county workhouse for a probation violation stemming from a 2003 drug conviction, Gustafson said.

Jackson has a court hearing scheduled for Sept. 10.

If I were that mother, I would have slapped that old man the moment he said something to me about shutting up my kid.

Although I think the mother should be disciplining her child more, I would severely kick the shit out of any human being who laid their hand on my child... especially a 61-year old man.

You don't touch other peoples' children, even if they are spoiled and cry.

Except that you don't know her child is spoiled. I take care of children with autism, epilepsy, and all sorts of other crap, and I hear horror stories from parents every day about how people in restaurants or grocery stores call them bad parents b/c they can't control their kid. Don't assume someone is a bad mother just b/c their child is having a tantrum.

I could understand someone losing their temper if it's on an airplane or something, but in a store? Walmart, no less.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

fully agreed, but to add to it, even if the child is normal that doesn't mean their spoiled. EVERY child gets temper tantrums. I think people are always quick to throw the "bad parenting" card, while forgetting, every child goes through this, and every parent suffers from trying to deal with it.

First off...did it shut the kid up?

Second...if your kid is having a tantrum and crying/screaming uncontrollably, take the lil fucker outside. Don't make other people live with your problems. I work in a restaurant and multiple times have had to deal with 20 minutes of a child flipping out and the parent just sitting and enjoying their meal with no considerations to the people around them.

Add onto this rant parents who let their kids play with the salt/pepper/sugars OR let their kids take 5 minutes to decide what they want to eat or drink.

Yeh totally agreed, if I had no rules I'd happily knock them out.

Likewise if I'm travelling on a plane for 10 hours I'd fully expect you (parents) to respect passengers and not bring their child who can and will scream and cry at any given time uncontrollably.

Bad parents? Nah. Bad people? Yup. It doesn't matter if your kid has assburgers, bipolar disorder, allergy to waffles, cancer, and AIDS. You shouldn't be taking them to restaurants, stores, etc if you know they're going to be a major distraction. Quit spreading the misery.
