although on second thought, I think the more accurate thing to say would be, everybody in this thread has wanted to smack a parent at one point or another. that's a bit more accurate. because when I see a parent with a screaming child in public, and the parent has stopped whatever they're doing to take the child aside and do their best to resolve the situation, I don't think I've ever felt annoyed or even slightly bothered. if anything, when I see that happen, I feel my faith in humanity grow just a little - it's so rare to see somebody actually taking control of the situation. it gives me a happy.

on the other hand, when I see a screaming child and the parent isn't doing shit, you're goddamn right I get pissed off. I don't care what your situation is, I don't care how busy you are, I don't care how stressed out you are, how late you've stayed up feeding the kid, changing diapers, what-the-fuck-ever. bottom line: if your child is causing shit, it is your responsibility to take care of it. will it be difficult? sure! is it nearly impossible sometimes? definitely! will it take time out of your day that you can't really spare? probably! oh well. boo-fucking-hoo. you should have thought of that before you became a parent. I know I sure as shit am not ready to have kids yet because I can barely support myself, and I'm 27. I don't know if I ever will be ready. but I know for sure that I will not accept that responsibility upon myself until I can guarantee I will have the time and the maturity necessary to raise the little shit. I'd like to someday, I really would. but I won't do it until I know I can do it right.

I think far too many people have kids before they're ready to accept the full responsibility of just what being a good parent means. kids suck up all your free time and demand more. ditto to your bank account. and your sleep schedule. and a lot of other shit.

I get the impression that a lot of people think they can "have their cake and eat it too" when it comes to kids, as in, have a child but somehow maintain the same freedom and lifestyle they had beforehand. no fucking way. having a child means being miserable and loving it. having a kid means giving up anything and everything you have to in order to ensure that your child grows up properly, into an adult you can be proud of.

I'm not saying it's all doom and gloom; obviously not. there are plenty of benefits, not least of all the simple fact that the love you get from your kid is going to be better than any drug you could possibly find. and then there's the pride when your child does well, the joy in seeing him running around on the playground, making friends. the tears that come to your eyes when he graduates high school. it's worth it, one hundred percent. but it's not going to be easy, and too many people seem to think it is. and then they get frustrated when they realize it's going to be tough as shit at times, and they give up, and let the kid scream when he wants to, and that's why we end up with kids who don't know how the fuck to act.

in a perfect world, there would be classes on parenting and a fucking test to pass before you're allowed to have a kid. of course, that will never happen, and I'm not saying it should. probably wouldn't work so well in reality. but by god would I love it if it did.

I know kids will act out sometimes, no matter what you can do. sometimes it's beyond your control, I'm not saying that a crying child = a shitty parent. but I am saying that a lot of people seem to give up on having any sort of control over their child's behaviour, then turn around and claim it's not their fault and act like there's nothing they could possibly have done to keep their kid from kicking your seat or screaming in your ear. and that is what pisses me off.

NO, The way children behave is a direct result of their home life, no child grows up in a vacuum, they're fucking sponges. Children learn everything about human interaction from their parents(the amount obviously changes as years go by). Perhaps the parents treat their child wonderfully, but if the parents treat each other like shit, said child will learn this is acceptable behavior it's called modeling. People tend to forget that their children are usually aware of whats going on around them. Children are smarter than we give them credit for. Shitty people have shitty kids not because they are shitty parents(they might be sometimes), but because of the behavior they model for their children.
