Indeed. Back when I was young, you could routinely see a kid getting smacked for doing something stupid in public. Now you get these parents who refuse to discipline their children in the same way they were due to the mental anguish it caused them as youth? Pussy ass kids become pussy ass parents.
You know generations of kids have grown up with get smacked around if they were bad for years that's how I grew up that's how my parents grew up ect ect. Anyways point being why the fuck is it so wrong to hit your kids? Why is it considered bad parenting if you hit your kids if they decide to be an asshole. If it was bad parenting our society would be hugely fucked today but I only see it getting worse as kids realize they can do whatever the fuck they want.
I beat the hell out of my 2 year old. I just don't do it in public.
I think you misunderstand the argument. Start here and reroll those dice.
I'm being too nice this morning.
What Correction said, faggot.
But it's not going to prevent you from working during the child rearing years, which was the point I was making. You still have to devote time to a career. You said that one shouldn't have children if they have a schedule or itinerary that needs to be adhered to. That's just absurd. You have to balance career and children.
It’s the wussification of America. Parents aren't allowed to discipline their kids without fear of some other person, who has no business poking around in other people's lives, reporting them for child cruelty. I grew up in a household raised by my grandparents. If I acted up I got nice belting. I was told to "not speak unless you're spoken to" when adults were in the room. Too often you see parents "yelling" at their children and they just walk away and laugh at them. If I ever tried that I would've gotten a nice ass whooping in public and if I cried I'd get smacked again for crying. Nothing wrong with being old school.
Hell, kids in optimist baseball nowadays have leagues where nobody keeps score, everybody gets to bat, everybody gets the same trophy and everybody wins. It’s like that in public schools too. My girlfriend teaches at a high school and she gets calls from parents complaining when they say that she has no right to discipline her kids when they act out. Really? Teach your kids to shut the fuck up when they shouldn't speak. You take your child out in public you make sure they act in a manner that is acceptable to everyone.
Stop with the bullshit excuses about "that’s just how kids are" or "it’s not their fault they're autistic."
It was touched upon in several posts I was just stating my opinion.
I was mainly going after the point about not completing your errands if your child is being a shit and left the statement too general. Yes, naturally you have to devote time to a career. My point was that if your life is so scheduled that sacrificing your time to enforce a timeout, take the kid home, take the kid to the car, etc..., you shouldn't have kids. I redact the previous statement.
If I could get away with really digging into my kid in public, I would. I will give her a light spanking if she acts up, just to let her know "If this continues, it's going to get much worse". And I think, even at 2, she kind of understands that. I'll never just go and wear her ass out in public though. As you said, too many over-protective people who cannot grasp the concept of discipline.
I still think you're vastly underestimating how inflexible a parent's schedule really is, and how that schedule changes because the kid throws in so many variables (kid gets sick, school has to close, etc) that no amount of preplanning and available funds are going to create the utopian child-rearing environment you seem to envision for yourself. Sometimes you're just stuck with a crying kid in a public place and the fastest way to get out of that situation means inconveniencing the eardrums of others for a few minutes while you finish your task and move on with your day.
This isn't a daily event for any parent, your exposure to it notwithstanding.
It's not always because of schedule though, it was just an example of why one couldn't take the time to take their child out. Sometimes, the time you waste doing that is more valuable to you than the inconvenience you cause someone you don't know. It could be any number of things. Maybe the kid is hungry and you're trying to hurry up and feed the kid. Insert 50+ variables that would lead to the need to hastily get in and out of walmart.
The man had no right hitting that child.
I work in a store with tons and tons of glass bottles(alcoholic beverage store). The neighborhood is predominantly middle to upper class families of four. They bring their kids in and I give them lolly pops.
That being said, it's very frustrating for me to see children who are at least 6, run around in said environment. I know you want to have a drink to relax get away and relax from your everyday musings raising your kids, but do they have to run in the store? I bite my lip and say nothing, but I should say something to the parents but what do you tell them without insulting their "parenting"?
Parents seem to think their children are all angels. That is the main problem. They let their kids be "engaged" because it will allow them to grow up. There is a time and place for that. There seem to be no rules for a lot of kids nowadays.
I do have to say though it is probably 10% of the kids who act like this.
