That's why you get it done under sedation. It hurt a bit after but just like a heavy period pain, and naprogesic fixed it up. If you don't get sedation it does hurt a lot, so I hear.

It's not copper, this one is plastic with embedded hormones that are slow release. As for it running out, you just keep the date you got it put in and like set a calendar reminder or something for 5 years time, lol Also my clinic said they would send me a letter when it was time to "renew".

Copper ones can be all kinds of bad btw, cos they generally increase period heaviness, and can cause spotting throughout the month, this is the main reason I went with the Mirena cos 1/20 women end up with no period at all, and the rest have their periods decrease massively. Mine are like at 1/3 of their usual levels and getting less each month, which is pretty awesome imo.
