There is no option to ignore or bypass, I just uninstalled my mcafee, It only has restore remove report to mcafee as options. If you restore the file it will just pick it back up when you hit pol.exe. If you disable all mcafee services it will let you use POL, you can enter the game but you soon begin to dc. After uninstalling Mcafee my pol is fine and i don't dc at all.

ESET scanned the file with no issues (polcore.dll), just to add to the false positive talk.

I'm still online and my polcore was sent to mcafee, find the disconnecting thing odd.

I was just reading this thread, figured I'd open up a new pol.exe for lulz, sure enough..

I'm actually amazed so many people use McAfee, I thought people have known it was garbage for years but I guess not. Same with Norton. I used to have both and they're just bloated useless pieces of shit.

AVG, on the other hand, is on my parent's PC, and it's started installing all this weird shit like AVG toolbar and whatnot, while also not giving very good service, so I'm gonna go ahead and toss that one on the pile of crap.

I use avast personally, it's free, it's not bloated, I can hardly tell it's there, and it's saved my butt the verrrrry few times I ever had an almost-virus problem.

Well I managed to go around it, I can restore the file and open POL without the Trojan error, however I am now getting an error that it was unable to move update files. =/

If anyone wants to continue prying around post-detection, go for it. This is the link for the guide to go around the Artemis! detection crap McAfee is using: Generic!Artemis & Other Possible False Detections - McAfee Support Forums.

I'm switching to Avast or something. I will most likely have to reinstall either way now.

For those who dont know Mcafee does not offer a whitelist, or trusted files option ( At least in the free copy that i have ) You can google it if you like, but the only option is to "send" the file to Mcafee, then they will scan it and if its a false positive, they will send you a file that you run, that tells your program to ignore that file. You yourself unless you know how to make these files they send you cannot tell Mcafee to ignore a file without first reporting the file to them and getting there feedback. If im wrong and theirs a way to tell Mcafee to block files, please feel free to post, it will solve alot of problems i have when Mcafee goes on a rampage with telling me my programs are viruses.
For now, you can go into options and just turn off the Active Scan, leaving the normal scheduled scanner to run as you like.

The way we ended up fixing our problem.

    Delete McAfee
(we have multiple computers in the house with FFXI) Copied the .dll file from one computer to the one that was missing the file.

After that was done we got an error that said: Class not registered

    so then we did this:
    Start > Run > cmd
Type in: cd C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix (which should then give you a prompt that looks like C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix>)

    You then type in: regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\com\polcore.dll"

    and it fixed it.

So if any of you are having this problem, this should help. BTW, we are both running Vista.

(THANK YOU Ceiyne for the help, couldn't have done it without you)

Sorry if Im late but when did the German's bomb Pearl harbor? I know Japan did it once and it's what made us take a larger role in WW2, but I was not aware that Germany ever did.

Hope you be trollin', but either way I got two good laughs at work today. One from the Animal House throwback, and one from your post.

There is nothing wrong with McAfee, the free shit version you get is just that, shit, same thing with free Norton, and other 'free' software. McAfee is prob the best virus protection i've ever used, and you can tweak it anyway you want. However, McAfee Ent. is the version you want.

Same deal with IE, everyone says IE is horrible, but 9/10 it's the user that is misinformed, or doesnt have the proper knowledge, and then blames the product.

Sorry, just irks me when people have some 'issue' and rage against everything involved with it.

Eh, IE is pretty shitty 'out of the box' and is often very difficult to properly adjust, given that you often need Windows updates to go along with your IE updates to make them work correctly. This assumes you know what you are doing too.

Just had this happen to me, didn't even see this thread! Of course I paniced and thought I was going to be hacked. McAffee gave the same pop from page one, and I have the same result as others.

Pretty lame, I can go around the fucking scanner but now I can't figure out the unable to move update files error.

Anyone have an idea? Trying to get around reinstalling tbh.

No one has thought to call/chat with the company that supports the app about their latest virus definitions?

Anyone have a torrent or link to a full/cracked version of nod32? I didn't realize AVG was so subpar, definitely want to upgrade.

I got hit with this also. I have mcafee, but it is expired and wasn't being used. I have since deleted it and reinstalled, everything fine now.

    **edit Reinstalled POL, not mcafee

Not sure if it is the most reliable cracked because it appears as if you need to have a "nod enabler" with it, used for the trial version and there are conflicting versions of the enabler floating around as separate downloads, some functioning, others not. I am just reading what I see but I have not tried it personally so I can easily be wrong. XD

Ya I was looking on demonoid and seeing a lot of updated enabler cracks and was getting confused. If this program really is the cats meow then I'll pay for it, $40 a year is a whopping $3 per month which is more than worth viable security.
