Thanks I'll look into that. I'm not trying to hijack this thread but it's making me question my AVG/security choices. Started a thread here about Nod32/best home anti-virus software here for anyone interested:

NOD32 is what I use and I'm not in this pickle atm. </smug>

Seriously it's light weight and unobtrusive and I haven't had a single problem with it, ever.

Just had this happen to me.

A temporary fix to this is to open up security center under Computer and files.

Click Advanced in Virus protection and uncheck scan for unknown viruses using heuristics in real time scanning.

NOTE: THIS WILL LOWER YOUR PROTECTION AGAINST NEWER VIRUSES.

This is just a temporary (albeit bad solution) to be able to run POL.

    If you read the thread..

People have been saying restoring, reinstalling with McAfee on their computers and it's not working. So long as McAfee has polcore.dll marked as a generic virus it will always be detected and there's nothing you can do about it unless you turn it off or change your settings.

I'd say how, but I already posted a link and I believe another person said it as well. It will lower your security, but for those who can't swap virus scanning services, it's a fix until McAfee gets their shit together, if ever.

edit: For those of you too paranoid to turn the shit off, if you're already using browser protection, chances of even getting a virus to begin with is relatively low. Having a virus scanner has done me good literally twice in 3 years time, if that says anything. On top of that you're disabling one or two features of many that are working to keep your computer safe.

Common sense + protected browsing ftw.

Eh. I'll stick with AVG. 6 years with it and never had a single virus damage my system before it got caught. You can uninstall individual components(like E-Mail Scanner, etc) if you don't want them so it is not as much as a memory hog as some people claim. Never had it install anything without asking me first either. Too many people blaming software for UE in this thread .

There are a lot of misunderstood people. D: McAfee isn't as terrible as it's made out to be. :\ I love it myself. I hate to get rid of it, but I'm giving this like 3 days before I move on I guess. I already have to go through fort knox to play FFXI due to SE, don't feel like fighting my virus protection now. qq

But to each their own, I guess. I personally don't like the look of other free protection such as Avast! and AVG as much as I do McAfee, some vice-versa.

This bit with McAfee messed up two people in a Baha V1 run that I was helping with this evening, but they managed to get the files out and get on. (We kicked some serious dragon butt btw. I was ready for Big Bad Trouble; had a asston of MP restore meds an' everything, and hardly had to use any.)

I'll ask Cydori for full steps on how to make it leave it alone for the rest of you that's cussing this out. Tho if it KEEPS munching on POL, you may have to switch antivirii programs

Ditto, but quite thankful. Yet again, McAfee never lets me down. =/

I have Kaspersky and PoL gets flagged as a possible key logger. Also Norton 09 Gaming Edition is supposed to be really good. All the 09 stuff is.

I reformatted my PC to XP about a week ago. Get these detections everyday, anyone know what's up with it? I don't see how I could have a keylogger...

Got this yesterday but mine wasn't a POL registry. It happened right after I jumped on to wiki for some reason and Windows Virus scanner (I don't use the thing so I don't know why it suddenly started working) just started going off about infected files. I carefully navigated through about 4 or 5 popup windows that asked me if I wanted to clean these files and went with my instincts to trust my own virus scan stuff (McAfee). The registry log after the scan pulled up one infected file that looked like: BRCOUYDC.DEFAULT/CACHE, the items scanned were called FakeAlert-GreenAV (trojan).
Maybe a fake alert virus implanted in to your systems natural virus scan software to get you to click things? I sent the analysis off to McAfee so they can take a look at the logs and said they'll get back to me. Wiki problems anyone? No problems with FFXI or anything else as I can tell.
