Enchanted Dominion Waterfront or Mirage Arena to level up imo. But uh... 40 is probably definitely overleveled. I imagine you'll be perfectly fine at whatever level you're at if you just try and meld a command with Once More (lets you live through combos). You can use that to tank his meteors at low health. I beat him at 23 and I had no problems at all with how much damage I was dishing out, which is the only thing level really effects on critical (you still die in a couple of hits regardless of how much HP/def you have). Definitely a damn hard fight though, Ven/Aqua's final bosses seem a fair bit easier.

Edit: Boss room where you fought Peter Pan is pretty damn good too. There's a single Blobmob in there. Take it out with normal attacks and it'll keep splitting up, each one gives a fucking ton of EXP when you get them down to their smallest size. Also levels commands super quick.

Finished the game with all 3 characters and got all Xehanort's reports.
Aqua's final boss was much easier than the other two.

As usual, Kingdom Hearts games answer a handful of questions regarding the story and leave much more of them unanswered.
Haven't completed the Final Episode yet but from KH2: FM+ and 358/2 days extra cutscenes it should be obvious what happens.
As soon as you see that Land of Departure = Castle Oblivion many things should appear much clearer.
The real question is why Vanitas looks exactly like you-know-who while Ventus looks like Roxas.

I'm also confused about the obvious time-loop when Terra is talking to Riku in the Destiny Islands. Why did Terra see that KH2 Riku vision? Why did the young Riku mention something that seems to be taken from KH1 (which supposedly happens 10 years after)?
I hope KH3 doesn't degenerate into a cliche time traveling story.

From what I can guess, KH3 is (hopefully) going to bring the story to full circle. Hopefully the 3DS game turns out to be a non-important spinoff because the story is complex enough and adding more only makes things more confusing.

I'd say don't worry about it on your first playthrough, since most everyone will probably do a second one on Critical Mode. That's when you go for 100%

Critical mode sounds like a fucking pain in the ass though lol. I'm not really a fan of 2nd playthroughs.

I'd say play on Critical if you've played KH before, because most who have played KH know how easy Proud mode can be.

Nothing missable as far as I know. You can travel back to any of the worlds you've been to and get anything you missed. Infact, sometimes you HAVE to go back to areas because certain places are locked off during the story of that area.

If you don't overgrind even Proud Mode is challenging. All characters have at least 3-4 pain-in-the-ass bosses and starting from the 5th world or so even regular enemies become much harder to take down.
4 chests in the Land of Departure were missable in the original JP version, but not anymore in the other releases.

Really... in my opinion, only Terra's story had any actual challenge even on critical (which is all I've played the game on). The game is stupidly easy with Ventus and Aqua. It probably would have been easy with Terra too if I actually bothered to meld commands throughout the game instead of just rollin with whatever (and not messing with the command board much either) for most of the game.
But still, that final boss of his is damn tough. Second Chance and Once More would definitely have had me beating it a lot sooner though, that's for sure.

Fuck I think my aqua is underleveled because she's getting rocked by ansem, damnit guess I will level after classes but he's basically terra's final boss so far and that makes me sad! Also do I need to kill mysterious guy for the secret ending?
