I still fail to see any solid indisputable evidence that it isn't a factor, while being something that's easily testable... so why all the hatred towards trying it? If I was retarded or something I might suggest that it's the actual secret and people are trying to hide it, but that seems highly unlikely.

It's like hypothesising that using Penta Thrust on Greater Colibri reduces their TP by 50% because some retard was adamant that the last time he Polearm'd at Nyzul camp they used fewer TP moves. I've personally been killed by Meteor both inside and outside of alliance at the alcove before, and I'm certain that many people who've attempted AV seriously will probably tell you the same. Gtype is a notorious idiot around here, he hasn't provided any evidence to prove that what he's saying is true, and you're all eating it up out of desperation because the last thing anyone wants is to be stuck at a dead end with AV. Guess what? That dead end was hit as soon as it became apparent that bracelets Meteor wasn't feasibly survivable.

This is one of the dumbest seriously-discussed "theories" ever.

I'm eating up nothing, I haven't seen a screenshot that suggests either it is or it isn't the solution, but it's a completely viable theory, if someone provides a screenshot of them + group (not just them, hi2u AoE damage reduction effect) taking full damage from bracelets meteor inside alcove, I'll never mention it again, but until I see a screenshot of that, there's no reason to just dismiss it as a possible helpful action

If I hadn't been a member of these forums for as long as I have I might be surprised that it's been taken as a theory less gracefully than leaving Manafont unlocked has been.

How the fuck is it viable in any sense? It's as stupid and haphazard and totally unfounded as all the other dumbass theories - using Jailer weapons, having other Jailers up whilst fighting, not using abilities specific to your main job... please enlighten me as to why "fight AV in the alcove to reduce Meteor damage" isn't equally retarded. Actually, it's probably more retarded because of the fact that getting hit by Meteor in the alcove is not some ultra specific situation that no one in the history of FFXI will have encountered. On the contrary, it's something that many people will have experienced first-hand.

And before you say it, no I don't have a screenshot of me taking full Meteor damage in the alcove. Do you know why? Because I don't take screenshots of mundane, predictable things. Do you know what I would take a screenshot of? Multiple people all taking reduced damage from Meteor, especially if I consciously took note of it happening and made it into a focal point of my AV "research" as Gtype has. Can you not see why this is completely and utterly stupid in every sense? If he provides evidence, I'll gladly eat my words, but I sincerely doubt that's going to happen.

Mob's having special behaviour at their spawn point is not without precedent. It's probably the most sane idea out of every one over the last 2 months or so.

Honestly, we are all grasping at straws here. I cant bring myself to look at the AV videos again. I am satisfied that we exhausted everything from that video that makes complete sence to attempt. I am also satisfied that we have tested everything that, kind of, makes sence. Finaly, i am satisfied that we tested most of the proactive approaches to AV. All that is really left to test with this fight is what has no effect at all. I find this lame and frustrating. Figuring out what has no effect at all is the worst way to test things out. It opens the door to crackpot theories. And frankly, its hard to say that they are wrong with any pretence of certanty... because, heck, i didnt program the damn thing.

All i am saying is that the theories that make sence to test have been tested to the best of the playerbases abilities. Do you have an idea that makes so much sence to you, that you are certain it will work? I really dont think so. All of that crap has been tried, and either failed because it didnt do anything... or we failed at execution of the test, and didnt know. Heck, someone even tested emotes lol. Kudos to that group by the way, i wish i could entice BBQ to test silly things like this in the off chance of it actualy doing something. We need more LS's that share that same kind of willingness to mess around.

Unless Square Enix provides us with some additional information... testing crackpot theories is all we have left.

Do i think that defeating JoL, then fighting AV in the alcove, will nerf meteor damage... nope. However, those are the kind of ideas we have left to test... Well that and seeing what 10-12 MNK's Chi Blasting away will do to AV with a damnable zombie strategy.

Exactly. Sooner or later if we throw enough theories out, one or two will become workable ideas; though the signal to noise ratio of people suggesting stuff like "check his direction hurrrrr" and "see if his behaviour changes when <<established behaviour seen in another mob>>" is rather high.

Either that, or there will be an emergancy maintenance with the reason "The coupling of magic attack bonus to maximum HP of certain monsters has been adjusted."

Actually, that's not a bad idea. What if AV's MAB is tied to his max HP/current HP difference, but it's still using 2007's HP value? Did anyone manage to test bracelets meteor damage before the nerf?

Absolute Virtue is neither Ix'zdei or Lioumere. While some mobs exhibit special behavior, it is ridiculous to think that just because these two completely unrelated (other than being of the same expansion, which really isn't all that great of a connection) monsters exhibit this sort of behavior, that this makes this "theory" (if you could call it that) any more plausible. The fact remains that this "theory" has as little foundation as the rest and is therefore just as plausible as me theorizing that if you cast every spell in alphabetical order on Absolute Virtue that he will proceed to run in circles and allow you to kill him.

Aside from that, it's of a rather high probability that if this were the case, and this theory held any sort of weight, that several groups (or at least one group) would have noticed it already.

So what you're saying is, that a theory that has no precedant is just as likely as a theory with precedant? If that's the case, we need to go back and examine stuf like "is AV a mob or an NPC".

I mean, all NPC's have green names, but if we can't take precendent into account...

If a mob displays the behaviour already, it means that the code to do it is there. It means we can eliminate a known behaviour, rather than working on unknowns. What we know *doesn't* work is just as important as what does.

Aside from that, it's of a rather high probability that if this were the case, and this theory held any sort of weight, that several groups (or at least one group) would have noticed it already.
Like how every group fighting AV for ~4 years noticed that he stopped using 2 hours for no apparent reason? If it was obvious, we'd have found it by now. We need to look for subtle.

Are you just completely retarded? The theory has no direct precedent. None.

Not to mention regaining HP is completely different from what's being suggested.

The mobs listed do something special at their spawn point. Therefore, AV *could* also do something special at its [JoL's] spawn point.

It is as simple as that, but as the crux of your argument seems to be my spelling and my retardation, I doubt you'll get that.

They exhibit that behaviour at an exact coordinate within a zone. That in itself is completely different from what you're suggesting. This is not worth discussing at all.

Could just as likely as something else could. Nothing makes this theory special. Dear god.

Not saying I think any current "theory" isn't retarded, but what would have happened had someone suggested matching 2hrs two years ago? They would have been torn to pieces by people like you. There is no logic behind matching 2hrs, but that's how AV is coded. So why is logic required in a method to weaken/lock the last (known) hurdle?
