I, personally, like to think face-to-face fighting a mob solo is a horse of a different color when compared to kite solos. (This is of course not diminishing the fortitude required to do either, nor the whole 'skill' involved whatever that may be)
One's a nice brown arabian horse and the other is a fucking purple unicorn with laser eyes
I didn't really read many of Tricen's posts, (I don't read many posts at all, its hardly necessary!) but it seems to me that he's talking about some sort of epic Monk versus Genbu show down where they exchange blows and kicks to the face. What with the whole blah blah attributes blah blah skills etc.
The only skills relevant in a RDM solo versus Genbu is how fast their dark magic skill is killing it and how high their elemental magic is to overcome his ridic magic evasion.
While the only skill in a MNK solo versus Genbu is who the fuck knows I don't know why a Monk has to be 68. I do know that MND plays a role in Chi Blast so attributes are taken into account there too, though!
So his argument isn't the strongest, but I see his point. Y'knaw? A level 68 MNK can kill Genbu, but it isn't really fighting Genbu so much as it is running around like a ninny trying to avoid his massive turtle jaws.
This is, of course, assuming I read Tricen's "skills" as character skills and not player skills. If this whole thing is tied up to Benz and Gtype, well I don't know the former but the latter is braindead.
oh god

Here's new little AV info to add to OP. AV doesn't activate Benediction at HP100%. Bushi says that he confirmed it on his website with a movie. In the movie, they locked 12 2hrs and left Benediciton, Invincible and Mighty Strikes. In this condition, AV repeated only Invincible and Mighty Strikes as long as his HP is full. I don't know what will happen if you lock Invincible in this case. Will AV activate the last Mighty Stirkes and forget Benediciton forever ? No idea.
Bushi also confirmed that countering Soul Voice on the log "AV uses Soul Voice." worked. Of course, you have to make your chat filters best to do it. The yellow spiral has been a kinda problem to me because it includes 6 many 2hrs and I can't counter them with pinpoint accuracy by watching yellow (Call Wyvern and Benediction are easily judged, though). I thought that watching the log "AV uses XXX." was almost too late to counter for humans. So, this confirmation is a huge help. He also adds that it's still about only Soul Voice so far and needs another confirmation on the other 2hrs.
I know it probably sounds fairly arrogant and baseless, but I have a fair amount of confidence (gut, or something more) that AV killing will not be a problem later in the year. I believe SE really is going to follow through with exactly what they've been saying in the last couple weeks. That after raising the max cap, people will not be level capped in any areas where there isn't already such a cap (and in as we know in the case of 'promathia areas', the cap will be removed too). That is, you'll be able to be level 99 (or 80 starting from the June update) in Sea as well. Further, SE said that they will not be raising the difficulty levels of current "HNM's" and "endgame mobs." I'd like to think AV is their little baby, but I really believe it's much more likely that they are going to leave his level as-is as well.
Call it mere speculation, but I'm willing to "call it." Really, I could see AV being killed as early as June if people are serious enough. Fighting it the traditional way aside, I think people fairly underestimate the power of 16 war/sam's. Of course complimented by standard bard swaps, red curry buns, and -45% defense down (dia 3, angon, light shot, box step) appliable very quickly via simple '/pcmd leave', '/pcmd add', and '/join' macros. People fairly well underestimate both the cumulative stacking affect that defense down has, as well as the +1 pDif that crits (mighty strikes) has, most especially in the context of a high-def mob of AV's caliber. Of course, consider this in the context of June's new level 80 cap (much less the future cap of 99).
All that isn't even including the possibility of the new Smn Alexander's 'Perfect Defense' ability, which could either suck or be broken. Consider further that the cor can war roll the party after applying light shot, and that (assuming Alexander's 'perfect defense' could just barely allow DD's to survive a meteor, which is a big assumption) you can have SCH outside the alliance AOE CureIV'ing. Definitely a lot of logistics but I foresee future zergs being possible.
If I were a person with an AV item I'd really try to sell it IMO. Fortunately I somehow managed to sell my ring at a profit a couple of days ago. The implications this has on Speed Belt also havn't hit home yet. Lol at me for speculation, but I'll stick by these thoughts.
Going to lawl when they make better gear at 99 which will replace AV items. Guess no one has ever took that into consideration.
I doesn't work in campaign beacuse, usually, most everyone isn't in a pt, so you will only cure the individual, since that is the only pt member, but for some reason, when cast on an NPC it will hit everyone. But cures/pro/shell (anything that can be cast on others, and not party specific since you won't be able to cast the spell on anyone outside your own party) WILL hit everyone it that party, from an outside SCH.
When it comes to AV, i think that the level advantage people are taling about is both being oversold and undersold.
LULZ at the guy who thinks that we will get an average of 3-5k HP on characters once they hit level 99. PLDs get what, 20-24 HP per level? A typical Galka will be at about 2k HP. And you will still need to be able to deal with its two hours. Hundred Fists + Mighty strikes can be funny to witness. While AV's Accuracy will suffer, it wont be some insainly easy fight when PLD's have such a craptastic evasion rating. Youll still need to be able to eat stuff like that and live.
LULZ to the guy who thinks that this fight wont be much easier than it is today. That level diferance is huge. Figure the differance is about 11 levels. I cant think of a level 64 enemy that is incredibly difficult to fight, for many reasons. Not to mention that this level differance might allow us to land enfeebles. Landing Silence on AV = dead AV. (at the very least we will find out if it really is immune to stuff or not)
Any way you slice it, it will be interesting to see. I am most interested in seeing what kind of resistance our level increase will have on our resistance rate to meteor. That will be very interesting to see.
Of course AV is fucking immune to Silence, otherwise it would've been beaten years ago by rotating ES Silences, wouldn't it? Jesus there's no end to the amount of stupid in this thread.
Did your mother drink petrol when she was pregnant? The only evidence of AV ever having debuffs landed on it was anecdotal, people claiming that they landed Slow by MB'ing it on Thundersday or stuff like that, although I don't personally remember seeing any proof. Regardless, you really don't think that people would've made a bigger deal of being able to land debuffs with ES? You don't understand how magic accuracy works at all, do you?
Nope, no i dont. Never wrote that i did either. I dont really dabble in the mage jobs. There was one game that i did, I cant say that i ever liked it. Im more of a sword and board kind of guy. The defensive sides of games is what i like. Always have.
By the way, i wrote that he has NOT been enfeebled with anything. Somehow, i am getting the idea that you think i wrote something else. Perhaps i am just missinterpreting your post, i dont know. All i said was that i do not think he is immune to every single enfeeble. But, even if i am wrong, having a level 99 be unable to land an enfeeble would really prove that it is.
and LULZ at the hostility.
you mad.
AV resisting every debuff in the game would be a nice (re: incredibly frustrating) throwback to the Final Fantasy games this one is loosely based on, where debuff spells just clutter your list. Not worth it for random encounters, won't land 'em on a boss.
