Thank you.

Clearly, it's hard to read. Moving on though.

Must be even harder to actually use the BP yourself or read anything that's been discussed about it.
Nice link, and yes, it's hard to use when you don't have it.
The discussion states that skill does not appear to increase duration; it does however, along with the Vanafest site, note that MP affects potency, with no mention of duration.
I'd post the link but for some reason it ends up pointing to the wrong site as above.
This is fun![]()
You just linked a blank page in order to prove that your previous statement was incorrect. I'll concede on potency also being drawn from the percentage of MP consumed, which wasn't something that was being refuted in the first place, but nowhere have I seen any evidence to suggest that it's based on the amount of MP consumed versus the percentage.
The comment was in regards to the idea that wearing Max MP gear would somehow make a Perfect Defense more viable with 1300/1300 MP versus 1100/1100 MP. You should really try reading harder before you try to jump into something.
Yeah, mine apparently points to a dead page now too. Quoting me and cutting out words to try and remove the word percentage doesn't prove anything other than the fact that you're really grasping at straws. If you wanna continue on this note though, feel free to PM me, I'm not getting infracted over some stupid bs in this thread of all places.

Nowhere does it mention percentage of MP is related to potency. It, however does say "based on remaining MP at time of casting." Linking a bad link makes me wrong and you right. It really isn't hard to make your own research.
If you want proof of everything that's being discussed, you can do your own tests. Until you can prove wiki wrong with your own tests, I'll take wiki's word as truth.
The talk page, which apparently can't be linked as it ends up pointing incorrectly, notes people stating that duration is not affected by skill.
There are two arguments here, one regarding duration as stated, the second regarding percentage of MP.
As I said, reading comprehension ftw as it appears that duration is a set 90 seconds (NOT affected by percentage of MP or skill).
With regards to potency, remaining MP can be interpreted as percentage, but can also simply mean the more MP you have remaining the more potent it is.
The information provided at Vanafest 2010 stated the following.
Avatar: Alexander Uses “Perfect Defense” to reduce damage sustained by party members and prevent status ailments.
- Damage reduction and resistance rate will vary with the summoner's remaining MP.

If this guy's testing is to be believed then we're all wrong. Though I admit he doesn't seem to have any concrete evidence towards the damage reduction applied by the Blood pact, but I can't seem to find anything to evidence varying levels of potency based upon MP, just that the effect decays much more rapidly at lower durations.

And I know, lol KI and all that jazz, but it seems to be one of the few tests that anyone did on Alexander's BP that wasn't just "use at 100% MP and time the duration".
So, basic battle strategy:
Take him down to 75% the normal way and make sure you lock Invincible, Perfect Dodge, and Benediction. Have an alliance of Bards, Corsairs, WAR/SAMs, and Summoners standing by. Swap Troub songs around the DD alliance, trigger Meteor, pass him off to the WARs either by having the main alliance wipe ASAP or by some other method. Perfect Defense, Mighty Strikes, kick the summoners, grab the CORS, try to reset while people are zerging, you have 90 seconds go.
If he has 66k HP and you take him to 75% then you need to do about 50k damage in 90 seconds. I'm sure it's possible. Well, you can expect about 4 WSs per WAR in 45 seconds (initial 300TP, Meditate+Hits, Wing, potentially another Meditate). Their WS average would have to break ~800 damage to take him down before MS wears, which may not be reasonable even with Mighty Strikes up. Probably start with Steel Cyclone and then go to King's Justice. If you get a COR reset or two it becomes much easier.
The bigger issue is, who has the 40-50 people it'd take to pull this off?
If potency is dependent on remaining MP, then 1100/1100 has the same as potency as 1100/1300 which is NOT the same percentage. Therefore, if you had 1300/1300 MP remaining, it is better than having 1100/1100 MP remaining. So having full max MP for potency makes perfect sense.
I'm not going to argue on the smn skill to duration since it wasn't even mentioned in the official info page. Which is probably why our SMNs used max MP. Understandably, one can mistakenly conclude it was based on skill if it is labeled as BP Ward as seen in wiki.
lolIts easier to just take your time and chip him slowly but quickly at the same time and angon and souleater do that.
When exactly are you going to get bored of posting complete bullshit just for the hell of it? Do you really have no better way to spend your time? If not you should definitely consider killing yourself.
Ah, I missed that he gets damage -% as HP drops.
I still play FFXI, but I stopped wasting buffer on this guy when -noth got banned. Heck, I hardly do endgame anymore! I just sit around making gil and doing random crap to accomplish minor goals/help people.
From what's been reported, the damage reduction appears to be linear with HP. This means that it either caps at some point (perhaps when it hits 20% HP) or that it can be removed somehow. The fight is impossible otherwise. Despite this, a zerg strategy still isn't completely out of the question. You'd have to deal around 260% of the damage you would normally deal. It comes out to be around 170,000 psuedo HP to cut through in 90 seconds (before Perfect Defense wears off and you die.) It may seem unreasonable for a single alliance to be the source of all of this damage, and rightly so, but there is no reason you can't put a second alliance up to it or even a third. It is a zerg, after all.
