I've only fought JoL as blm, so forgive me this question, is there some magical field of pwn that JoL gets if you don't drag him out of his pop area? Why wouldn't testing it be easy?

You pull it there so that JoL tards out and can't melee the tanks.

Also, there would be plenty of time between boosts to pop a Reraise Hairpin. Having a horde of WHMs to save minor amounts of EXP and money is impractical in the face of items that are worth hundreds of millions of gil.

I'll be happy to explain to you exactly why it's actually outlandish and absurd when compared to other ideas, although the first thing I'd like you to do is explain to me in detail how you would go about 'testing' this theory. This includes everything from the planning the JoL fight itself to AV observation and conclusions.

I think the biggest thing which makes people hesitate to fight JoL straight up is his weaponskills, which pretty much do count as a magical field of pwn. He wouldn't be impossible to kill that way by any means. After all, he is 100x more squishy than AV. But it would probably require some serious tactical changes since summon >> astral flow >> primal drill could result in a very fast wipe if you're unlucky.

This is currently my favorite batshit crazy theory around, but my LS is still probably another month or two away from another AV attempt even if I really nag people to schedule it. Sadly, I think such a mechanic would be unprecidented in FFXI coding. I can't think of any enemy who becomes weaker/stronger based on the distance from their original spawn location...

Just to clarify, from what I remember in doing Kirin chi blasting, double weakened doesn't effect chi blast whatsoever. The damage is normally unaffected. However i cant test it at the moment or else I would to reaffirm my statement with pictures and the like.

Was hoping for this. I kinda figured it might be this way because there is no sort of "Chi Blast" skill or anything like that.

I'm a little out of the loop, have people managed to kill the un-nerfed AV? Did he get nerfed? Or still unkillable?

There are some monsters that get stronger/weaker depending on if you fight them at the spawn point or not.

The Ameretat's in wajoam woodlands are the only ones i can think of atm tho. They get crazy regen unless you pull them away from the spawn point.

Not spawn point, sunlight. If you drag them way off to a different sunny area, their regen comes back. Intended to resemble photosynthesis, and irrelevant to this.

Kurrea and Lioumere come to mind when thinking of strength at spawn point, but that's more of an instant change than a distance change.

This theory is retarded, and I'm only posting this to clear a couple things up.

It may be retarded.. just showing that the ability for a monster to become weaker/stronger depending on where it is in zone exists in ffxi code.

If they could program regen for an ameretat depending on where it was in relation to sunlight... why not something much simpler as a spawn point.

A theory I have come up with from watching SE video which may sound a little bit crazy.

My conclusion is that casting elemental nukes on AV gives it access to Meteor. However it also forms an essential part of the strategy to lock it's regen. The trick is to throw in sufficient number of elemental damage before AV's HP hit 79% mark.

    Based on the following observation:
    1) BLMs in the video use low tier nukes such as Blizzard and Thunder, probably because they don't want to deal too much damage before AV's regen is fully locked

    2) No elemental nuke in the 2nd half of AV fight, not even after manafont is used. One of the video clips showed thunder IV landed on AV right before it's killed.

You don't have to drag JoL out of it's spawn point to tank it from a distance. I think people pull it out so BLMs can -ga3 adds without having to deal with hitting aerns. Also no it doesn't gain anything from being in it's spawn point.

Since everyone has their own "theories" i'll contribute something retarded too.

The more DMG the individual deals to AV, the more DMG they take from meteor!
The Faster you attack, the faster he attacks in brc.mode!
The Aern around him, need to successful link with him so BLM can -ga the aern & not AV directly.

I am really sorry if that has been asked/answered before, but looked for it and couldn't find it. And I just have no hope to luckily finding it in 63 pages ^^; And nothing was mentionned in the OP.

Is it known if casting enfeebling, or to an extend any non-elemental spell (like flash) matching the current day on AV is affecting it in any way (Flash in lightday, Slow on earthday, ...) resisted or not?
To some extend, is casting a spell that's not matching the current day (flash in darkday) having any effect on AV ?

    I know it can sound retarded, but I couldn't find any test of it, or any coment, in that thread, so I was wondering ^^;

EDIT : missed a few words.

@ Basara: To the best of my knowledge no one has mentioned "enfeeble matching the day" sort of attack in the past 64 pages.

I'm wondering if when SE fixed "the wall of justice" they threw in some sort of code pertaining to his location that activates his bracelet meteor mode. They basically gave AV a way to wipe an alliance if pulled away from his spawn point, that would work through said wall. we're just know encountering it, maybe not as SE intended us too, but because of all the changes/nerfs that AV has recieved?
