Honestly, I don't think anyone knows. There's a hidden rating, personal rating, team rating and match making rating. Whenever you win/lose a match in arena, it displays your mmr. So essentially, that is your mmr. It fluctuates quite a bit. You'll see it go up and down by 100-300 points in a single sitting depending on the teams you face and how you perform.

Worldofwarcraft.com realm forums usually has guilds advertising that they're looking for members.

Personally, I wouldn't look for a guild until I was 80 and in full epics. 5 man heroics drop emblems of conquest now, so you can get a full set of raid gear from the emblem vendor, and the new 5 man drops weapons and really nice gear also, so you can farm that like a champ.

There's really no excuse anymore not to have amazing gear. I had a shitty shadow offset from Ulduar and the new 5 man gear gives it a run for its money.
