I'm probably going to do the iron/steel splitter route, it'll cost 40K GP but I can afford that if it means super fast skillups ^^

Though I do like this jacaranda log -> bard dagger route idea, I'll run some numbers for my server's prices and see if it makes good money.

Well I hit 98 today, thanks to every for the help so far, and am now looking at 3 alternatives.

My smithing is 47, so I coul grind it the last 8 levels and skillup smithing 55-60 and WWing 98-100 via saving up like 4 stacks of adaman ingots and grinding out 40 some iron splitter,s then turning them all into steel splitters and getting it all done and over with in one shot...

Or option 2, level GSing to 50s and do primate staves / kinkobos same style, which sounds pretty damn expensive but I AM going to level GSing sub up anywho...

Or option 3, jacaranda logs. Guess what, some douche(s?) has/have droppedthe price of jaranda lumber all the way down to 75K. Guess what? logs still cost 100K. Screams gil buyer to me, whooo I just bought 30 million gil I can sell these on AH for practicly nothing cause I dont care~~~~~

Ugh, so, 200K for 24 synths via iron/steel splitters, grind goldsmtihing up and do the nice cheap primate staves/ kinkobos, or suck up the 25K a synth for jacaranda logs that look like they'll have a much higher skill u prate do to 103 skill?

BTW my wallet has cancer D:

    Hello Urat,

Congratulations on getting to 98. You are now free of the annoying harps.

Since I posted above, I made it to Woodworking 100.0 (Just hit it last Wednesday night) and I thought about the paths you are looking at.

I'll share my way, and you can take the info into account.

I took Lancewood logs to 99.

When you take the per synth cost of all your other options into account, you can't beat this one for the 10 skill ups it can offer. On Phoenix the logs went for 12K, sometimes dipping as low as 9. The lumber NPCs for about 2K so it's not a horrid loss, and if you have any regular gil making plan your wallet should stay even over the point. Why? Because you will be waiting on logs on the AH. They do show up in good numbers. The average day would have 5-7 pop up, more on the days that Dyna shells come out to play more, like the weekends and Tuesdays. So it will take a while to get through to 99, but I feel that at this level it's not a race, and the pace gives you time to keep your bank up. If you have some solid linkshell mates who can hit the AH while you are away things will go even faster in getting the logs.

I found the skill-up rate decent, with a .1 every 7 or so synths. Though I had a charming run totaling .5 in one session on 13 logs.

So the cost/loss rate is better then any of the other options, and the supply is solid enough to make good progress in reasonable time. I strongly suggest this to get to 99.

Then one is faced with all the options you looked at for the last 10 tenths to get 100.

I went with Jacaranda logs. On Phoenix they flux between 60 and 70K each, and the lumber moves VERY slowly for 50-55K. So your gil recovery is slow, and you eat about 15K loss per log. Painful, but not the end of the world.

It took me 43 logs to get my 10 skill ups. Or a dot under 3 million Gil in upfront costs for the logs. 12 of them blew up. so I have 31 lumbers to turn back into gil. O.o

I found the skill up rate to be pretty good. Just over a .1 per 3.5 synth rate which I think is fantastic. It's a very break prone synth in my opinion with more then 25% loss of material, I never had a break that didn't cost the log. On the other hand .5 of the skill came from breaks. Go figure. The cap on the synth is 101 not 103 btw, but the skill rate was still good.

Log supply is very solid thanks to the logs popping up in Campaign coffers. A given day will see 2 - 10 of them hit the AH.

I've been making Credenza's with some of the lumber (1 jacaranda lumber, 4 teak lumber, 3 rattan) and sold two for 100K each in private deals so far which is an actual profit of about 10K over mats per synth.

You'll get more synths for your gil with the splitter route based on your stated costs, so it may be better for you to go that way. I'll be spending a long time chipping my gil back out of the lumber I have, and 840K is a pile of log and wind crystal dust that my moogle cleaned up for the 12 breaks. I had the extra gil to invest/tie up/wave goodbye to in this path so it worked for me.

I wish you luck, and look forward to hearing how your path to 100 goes.
