    Elemental obis used defensively

I just ran some tests in ballista with my cor vs. Ellatrix's rdm on iceday. I did one earth shot to determine my base damage was 225 against him. I was in my standard QD gear, no obis on me.

Ella wore nothing but ice obi, and I did nine wind shots for 203 damage each. Ella took the obi off, I did one wind shot for 225 damage.

Ella put the obi back on, I did five ice shots, all five did 245 damage. He took the obi off, did two ice shots, one for 245 (day random proc), one for 225 (day didn't proc).

Conclusion: An elemental obi can be used to cut damage 10% from magic that the current day is dominant against 100% of the time, or increase damage 10% from magic matching the current day when worn by the spell's target!

More testing should most likely be done, but this makes for some very interesting defensive opportunities against anything that you can choose the day you fight it on such as proto ultima or absolute virtue.

Sumnydera completely naked, cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke that didn't have day proc (166 baseline damage).

Put sorcerer's earring on Sumnydera (-30% damage while in red HP), put shell IV on Sumnydera (Somewhere around -21% MDT), melee her down to red HP. Cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke that didn't have day proc (85 damage, ballista gives some weird MDB, but that is MDT capped at 50%).

Put dorin (earth) obi on Sumnydera, cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke with day proc (76 damage).

Left dorin on, put earth weather on Sumnydera, cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke with day and weather proc (76 damage WEATHER DID NOT PROC).

Leaving dorin and earth weather on, nuked stone a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke (29 damage). Took weather off, nuked stone a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke (29 damage).

    Conclusions:
1: Obis can be used to surpass the 50% MDT cap because they are calculated at a different step.
2: Weather and day effects must be on the AGGRESSOR, NOT THE DEFENDER. Obi will force a 100% proc rate when worn by either the aggressor or the defender, but it ONLY CHECKS THE AGGRESSOR for current day and weather.

So you can use the obi defensively when there's naturally present weather in your favor, but you can't force it with sch weather unless you find a way to get that sch weather on the creature you're fighting.

Let's use Proto-Ultima for example (natural double light weather, let's pretend it's iceday). If a SCH gives you voidstorm (dark weather), and you wear an anrin (dark) obi, your drains, aspirs, bios, leaden salutes, etc will do 10% more damage because of the dark weather on the aggressor (you). However, Proto-Ultima's Armor Busters, Citadel Busters, Holy IIs, etc will NOT suffer a 10% weather penalty and infact have a chance to gain a 25% weather bonus because double light weather is currently active on the aggressor (Proto-Ultima).

Sorry SCHs, but your weather is no good defensively unless you find a way to cast it on the enemy.

    omg! >.>

    So, this mean:

Day or single weather = -10% dmg (SCH can cast the weather you want but if day its oposate there is no malus and no bonus)

    Day + Single weather = -20% dmg

    Double weather = -25% dmg (Aegis >.>)

    Double weather + day = -35% dmg ? >.>

Holy shit. How has no one noticed this before? 10% MDT vs an Element... Sea is gonna be packed full of PLD's tomorrow.

Makes sense. A while back someone had a theory that casting storm spells on the party that is dominant to the element that is being casted by the mob gives a random chance to have 10% MDB against the spell. This works the same way except the obi makes it 100% on the day/weather. So pretty much something like Wind Obi with Windstorm should give 100% MDB against earth based spells.

Someone should try to test on a target with capped -MDT, just to be sure it stacks (though it'd still be worth it if it doesn't stack).

Obi proc is just the day/weather bonus of the equation, so it should be seperate from mdta/mdb, no?

On a related note, is there any testing done on weather/day mg acc effect? I've had my share of experiences with it, but wondering if any testing was done~

Pretty sure the day ticks over regardless of whether you have an SCH in the party or not.

I'm failing to see the applications here, the -mdt cap is quite easy to reach, not to mention avatar belts being vital to resist sets

I'm pretty sure weather/day reduction would be seperate from MDT/MDB.

I thought people already knew this, I've known PLDs who use the light obi in citadel buster setups.

Didn't work last I tried it on elementals, but this was a while ago (and only on weather, as I remember)... test outside of ballista/with weather?

That would INCREASE your damage taken. That said, I was under the impression it was common knowledge as well, I've known for at least 2 years >_>

The first thing I thought when I read this was 'well that's idiotic'

Does this work against enemies? I just woke up so I might've completely missed that
