    Further testing:
    Yinnyth (blm/sch)
    Sumnydera (blm/nin)
    Ellatrix (sch/blm)

    Earthday, Diorama Abdhaljs-Gelsba

Sumnydera completely naked, cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke that didn't have day proc (166 baseline damage).

Put sorcerer's earring on Sumnydera (-30% damage while in red HP), put shell IV on Sumnydera (Somewhere around -21% MDT), melee her down to red HP. Cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke that didn't have day proc (85 damage, ballista gives some weird MDB, but that is MDT capped at 50%).

Put dorin (earth) obi on Sumnydera, cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke with day proc (76 damage).

Left dorin on, put earth weather on Sumnydera, cast thunder a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke with day and weather proc (76 damage WEATHER DID NOT PROC).

Leaving dorin and earth weather on, nuked stone a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke (29 damage). Took weather off, nuked stone a few times to make sure I get an unresisted nuke (29 damage).

    Conclusions:
1: Obis can be used to surpass the 50% MDT cap because they are calculated at a different step.
2: Weather and day effects must be on the AGGRESSOR, NOT THE DEFENDER. Obi will force a 100% proc rate when worn by either the aggressor or the defender, but it ONLY CHECKS THE AGGRESSOR for current day and weather.

So you can use the obi defensively when there's naturally present weather in your favor, but you can't force it with sch weather unless you find a way to get that sch weather on the creature you're fighting.

Let's use Proto-Ultima for example (natural double light weather, let's pretend it's iceday). If a SCH gives you voidstorm (dark weather), and you wear an anrin (dark) obi, your drains, aspirs, bios, leaden salutes, etc will do 10% more damage because of the dark weather on the aggressor (you). However, Proto-Ultima's Armor Busters, Citadel Busters, Holy IIs, etc will NOT suffer a 10% weather penalty and infact have a chance to gain a 25% weather bonus because double light weather is currently active on the aggressor (Proto-Ultima).

Sorry SCHs, but your weather is no good defensively unless you find a way to cast it on the enemy.

The functions could be (and probabaly are) different for PvP vs PvE.

Lazy coding way for PvE is to use the weather effect of the player and thus you dont have to track day/weather on the enemy. It probabaly calculates the base damage from the monster then applies the result on the player (or players if AoE) and look at what can modify it from their gear/stats/weather/day

I could be remembering incorrectly, but I want to say I recall that voidstorm helped reduce damage from proto-ultima.

So from what im understanding, Obi's are useless defensively unless you plan your battles on a specific day, yes? Or as just stated theres a chance PvE is different, but I doubt it.

Oh well, at least I have all the Obis on me at all time in the 1% chance things work out. Ill wear water obi just to look pretty.

Yes, during all the dmg calculations, there is only 1 check to see if Obi is present. Whether its on the Aggressor or the Target is irrelevant. The check is applied only to the dmg calc of the aggressor.

Weather would be hard to manipulate so matching days is your best bet for a solid -10% reduction in dmg.

    Darksday + obi vs Proto-Ultima
Lightsday + obi vs Absolute Virtue ( for meteor anyways ) Iceday to resist Aeroga

Since you're the second person to mention this in the post, I'd just like to point out that Citadel Buster is (an extremely strong) light based attack. If the person on the receiving end of this attack is wearing a korin (light) obi, the double light weather effect will be forced and they will take an extra 25% damage. If it also happens to be lightday when this occurs, it will be 35% extra damage and frankly there's just no surviving that.

best place to get the correct values for PvE would probably be in sky w/ elementals, and i thought PvP only had different values for cumulative resist & crit/ws/eva/acc mods?

    Thought it was all avatars?

On the note of Citadel Buster: hi, I take ~850 damage with a fresh Saline Coat and capped MDT if double weather and day proc.

Yea the 35% Weather/Day proc is still easy to deal with when you have an appropriate setup for it. But this information is still useful to have overall~

I honestly don't know enough about FFXI PvP to really comment on how it works compared to normal; but the prospect of annoying some elementals for an evening does sound fun~

I decided to further test this in a PvP setting (Brenner).
I found this to be quite an interesting topic so I wanted a little more testing to be done.

    Me (BLM/RDM)
    Abithra (COR/NIN)

    -- TEST 1
    -- Performed on Iceday
    -- Using Windshot.

No obis or gear except gun & bullets. - Quickdraw windshot = 188 base DMG / Day proc = 170 DMG
    Gun used: "Gun of Trials".
    Bullets used: "Steel bullets".
Only Quickdraw relevant merits were two accuracy merits.

-- Without Hyorin (Ice) Obi on me.
    #1) 188 DMG
    #2) 188 DMG
    #3) 188 DMG
    #4) 188 DMG
#5) 170 DMG - (Opposing day bonus proc)

-- With Hyorin (Ice) obi on me.
    #1) DMG 170
    #2) DMG 170
    #3) DMG 170
    #4) DMG 170
    #5) DMG 170

    -- TEST 2
    -- Performed on Iceday.
    -- Using Iceshot.
No obis or gear except gun & bullets. - Quickdraw Iceshot = 188 base DMG / Day proc = 205 DMG
    Gun used: "Gun of Trials".
    Bullets used: "Steel bullets".
Only Quickdraw relevant merits were two accuracy merits.

-- Without Hyorin (Ice) Obi on me.
#1) 205 DMG (Day bonus proc)
    #2) 188 DMG
#3) 205 DMG (Day bonus proc)
    #4) 188 DMG
    #5) 188 DMG

    -- With Hyorin (Ice) Obi.
    #1) 205 DMG
    #2) 205 DMG
    #3) 205 DMG
    #4) 205 DMG
    #5) 205 DMG

I saw that someone mentioned using elementals in sky for a PvE setting; which I belive is a good idea. After Limbus tonight I'll go and farm a few organs since I'm just a little bit off from a Dorin obi and rather not test against Ice and Thunder elemantals.

I'll try to follow up with PvE results, hopefully in the next few days.

Just wondering, what happens if both people are wearing obis? Aero with wind weather+obi nuking someone wearing ice obi, on ice day for example? Or both wearing wind obi?

Obi bonus is applied to the attackers' dmg formula if either one are wearing it. dmg doesn't stack because the bonus is only applied once ( and its the same bonus for both parties )

In your first case, Aero with wind weather vs Iceday Obi would cancel each out 100% of the time. ( +10% bonus and a -10% bonus )

In your second case, +10% bonus on the Aero spell since only 1 bonus applies if one or the other or both have wind obi.
