who really cares either way, everyone dies. why worry about what you're going to die from? conspiracy or not, im not going to worry about it and keep living the way i live cause i enjoy it, i cant control if the ice caps melt so why should that concern me? i can control dying from other things (drug overdoses, smoking related lung cancer and etc, drowning, intentional murder, etc etc) and thats totally ok with me but natural disasters causing total devistation and loss are out of mine and anyones control, theres nothing i can do and thus theres no reason for me to worry

    tl;dr:
fuck it, i cant stop it, so why should i care?

Ah, so that'd be why they salt roads to get ice to melt in colder temperatures.

i do most of the things on that 2nd link as 2nd nature, if i had a job close to home there'd be no reason for me not to walk or bike to work (barring weather conditions) i love walking/biking, i love conserving, i prefer green stuff over non green stuff, if i could afford it a prius is high on my list of cars i want its not like im not doing that, but some of these theories are based on predictions that dont factor global warming and shit in (2012 especially) so thats what im referring to by not being able to help, the only thing i dont do on there is stand by my computer, but im pretty sure my psu is green...

Umm yes, that's exactly why. Better hurry up and pretend you weren't being sarcastic before Kuno does.

Maybe you should take your own advice. Salt lowers waters melting point, which means it raises its freezing point.

You know when you're right, but you're depressed about it? This is one of those times.

I hope you're just joking or whooshing about the salt thing Cad... if not that's just sad. I would think every kid had already figured out the lowering of the melting point and raising of the boiling point generalization by adding solutes in the early stages of the process of finding things to make explode.

Ah, shit. I am an idiot.

Edit: but saline oceans still means ice melts sooner than it would otherwise, so the first guy is still correct.

Well, I'm not in an ocean science field, but from my albiet limited understanding of the current trends, the cause is a reciprocal process from general water temperature increase. The arctic waters are getting warmer, which is causing the breakoff of much larger portions of the ice shelf than normal. This in term exposes more seawater to the sun during the summer months, and the darker color of seawater absorbs more energy than the reflective properties of the ice, thereby continuing to heat the water up even further. Since a relatively small change, fractions of a degree, are all that's necessary to cause large losses in the ice shelfs, and a high percentage of the ice is not on the surface, the surrounding water beneath them are providing a large effect on the melting. While it is true that the saline solution (approx. 19000~25000 ppm NaCl on average, this much I do know since it's applicable to the nuclear field in a weird roundabout fashion) would only exacerbate the issue, removing the solute completely assuming that were possible would not stop the problem from occurring, it would just take longer.

The real point of contention currently, as I understand it, is what is leading to the trend of the water heating up that started the current process... but really, it's not like the planet is going to care one way or another; humans are just some viruses desperately clinging to their host as a parasite does struggling to survive.

Well, that's a start. I think we all need to start watching Water World repeatedly to get extra pointers though.
