El Nino supposed to make for a good winter this year in SoCal resorts! With some luck they are projecting a possible start of the season around the beginning of November.

I just picked up my season pass again this year for my favorite/home mountain: Mountain High $300 anytime season pass + 2 lift tickets for friends or whatever = STEAL!

Can't wait to try my new setup this year.

Me and the bros always hit up Copper or Steamboat (Winter Park 4 years back). I'm wanting to try a more friendly freeride/terrainpark boarding mountain. I hear some parks in Cali are good (Mammoth) but I've never been to the state. Any good suggestions since we're on the topic?

Bear Mountain: Home they've been voted best park in the nation more than once by Transworld. A lot of signature jibs, really fun place. I think they have too many roll on boxes/rails though.

www.mthigh.com is my favorite place for park, although it's usually crowded and surface conditions can be less than stellar. I love it though, really chill place.

I know that Boreal on I80 is 100% terrain park. They are a very small mountain and do not have a ton of vertical feet but if terrain park is what you want I have heard they are great for that. Also Northstar and Squaw Valley usually have very large terrain parks or several parks scattered over their mountains.

I am not sure on the quality of those parks personally as I usually just do downhill and stay out of the parks.

Those are all in the tahoe area btw.


Edit: Yes to the above Bear Mountain kicks so much butt. I have only been there once but it was so much fun.

Also winter needs to be here now! I miss the snow.

I really need to make it to Tahoe this year. Heavenly, Northstar, Boreal... hear nothing but great things about those places. I've never been to a resort outside of SoCal(not even Mammoth), that needs to change this year.

The only thing about Northstar is it has become kinda yuppy and less about the actual mountain and more about the shops and lodge. And it is ridiculously expensive. But I guess lift tickets at most places now are getting up there.

Yeah it costs a lot to go to those places when you factor in gas, food, hotel, etc. Mainly want to go to Northstar to check out "The Stash," terrain features made out of trees sounds fun.

Cool thanks for the heads up. I am really glad that I live in the area because at least I can skip paying for accommodations as I can make a day trip to pretty much any ski area in the Tahoe area. Just need to pay for gas and ticket.

I miss working in the ski industry sometimes. It was so much fun. If you are in a transition period when you can do anything you want I would highly recommend working at a ski resort for a season or two, not as a lift ops but something else, I was maintenance and it was a great job. Weird hours but really fun.

I ride a burton Dominant with DC boots and switch between a few pairs of bindings. Haven't ridden in a year due to hip surgery, but I'll be back this year.

I go to Mountain Creek in NJ on a daily basis, and sometimes take trips to Killington and hopefully to tahoe this year.

Honestly I cannot wait until the season starts. I hit up Liberty and Round Top usually in PA, those usually suffice for me to get my fix. I had a 09 forum that broke... So I ended up switching up to a 09 Custom ICS with Cartels and Jeremy Jones boots, can't wait to try them out. Anyone on here ever hit up spots in PA?

We have this huge ski/snowboard convention every year in LA that has insane deals on gear. If I can find one for a good price I may pick up a Rome Artifact 1985.

I hit up JFBB a few times last year, didn't get out as many times I wanted.

The mountains being shitty didn't really entice me to go more often either.

Yeah, I tested the LibTech skatebanana. That board is sick! A little on the soft side for all mountain but it does the job. Incredible in the park. The flex makes for easy butters and good nose/tail presses.

I am in the Sacramento area if anyone needs someone to ride with this winter.

Skier here. Raced in Labrador west and Corner Brook, parts of Quebec when I was a kid, messed around in a couple of events near Ottawa. I have fairly dated rigs, but I don't put many hours on them so they've held up well.

Hit up Whistler last year and sold my GNU this summer. Might go again and just rent this time around since I don't feel like dropping a grand for new gear. If I had more time I wouldn't hesitate, but buying a season pass and only being able to go up maybe twice a month is pretty lame.

I usually snowboard in Ohio at Mad River Mountain, but last year me and my buddy went to Timberline in WV. The Salamander trail there is great, it's like 2 miles long. We're hopefully going to try to head up to Vermont or upstate NY this season and check it out up there.

Going to Killington on Saturday. Its been torture trying to get through finals week. Got a new board this year for my birthday/christmas too. A GNU Carbon Credit series. It's not a top of the line guy, but its a nice board.

Snowblades represent, although mine are like 5 years old now.. probably gonna get some new ones this winter, i saw they have added regular ski bindings to them since i got mine.

I have a pair of LINE park skis too but honestly i only used them for one week, I'm going to stick to snowblades from now on.. once you learn how to use snowblades in powder i honestly don't see any drawbacks over full length skis, everything is easier, and they are far lighter and more manouverable. I probably look like an idiot using poles with blades but meh.

If anyone is looking for a fantastic ski-in ski-out resort, check out Sunshine Village near Banff, there is only one hotel but it is really comfortable and the food is great. the lifts are literally 10ft from the hotel entrance, and there is a huge ski-out down towards Banff town itself. There is plenty of slopes to keep you busy for at least a fortnight too, and if you get bored the main slopes down in Lake Louise and Banff are less than 20mins away by bus/car. Delirium dive and Wild West off-piste areas require full avalanche kits and helmets, and a small hike to the drop-in point from the top of the lifts, but its well worth the trouble. My only criticism when i went was the terrain park is in a kinda stupid place.. badly exposed to crosswinds.. although they were talking about it being moved so i don't know what came of that.
