I don't like WoW as a game, but I have to admit that the interface and artistic design(FFXI also shines here) blew my mind. Rock solid stuff there.

Its a good MMORPG but I just don't like it. I can see why people play/like it, though.

Edit: While I'm at it, let me post a couple more screenshots.


They've certainly worked on interface this time around, they've mentioned this in a couple of interview and the preview image looks quite good. Thanks to the new generation console architecture, we'll less likely to hear the word "limitations."

Weather effects. FFXI did this good, FFXIV looks even better(WoW is awesome at this department as well).

graphics help but if you play games only for their graphics go watch blueray movies and save yourself a monthly fee

my fiance pointed out that the graphics for gear are kinda 'cheated on" for aion. when you look at the game there is literally only two models, male and female. everything is just stretched to make what you want. which means they only had to make two models for every outfit and have it stretch to the shape of the character.

i was thinking about this. but i thought the same thing he did, lol. im wondering if the backgrounds on aion are pre-rendered but blurred so that you can still move around the areas, sort of like FFX. not like i think its a bad thing anyways, it makes the game overall easier to run i bet.

Perhaps I should have phrased that differently.

WoW -tries- to balance things.
Aion doesn't, and outlaws any sort of parser to make it more difficult for players to actually figure anything out.

Allowing, and furthermore supporting addons is one of the best moves WoW has made.

I don't play WoW anymore, I don't ever plan to play it again, but it's a good game. Furthermore, -most- of the outcries of unbalance in WoW over the past 4 years have had little to no basis in reality. People complain about what is popular and call it unbalanced, but only if it's for a class they don't play. This is true in both pvp and pve.

On the other hand, you go play Aion and they just "forgot" to allow 1 class to use over 50% of it's damage in PvP. Great design, right? A more recent patch allowed Spiritmasters to at least use the orbs in the air, but still, why would you even put a pet class in a flying-based pvp game, then not let you use your pet in the air? It's mind boggling. I could get into other things like DP abilities/etc, but it's just not worth the time.

One thing I will say though, is it's infuriating when people think Aion's combo system is "interesting". All the combo system does is restrict what you can do. WoW has Frost Nova > Frost Bolt > Ice Lance as a combo, for example. But you can do the latter 2 without using the combo. Aion's version requires all 3 to be sequential or not used at all, resulting in even less thought used while playing.
