Guitar Hero 5

Picked this up over the weekend. About halfway through it and its a bit underwhelming. Granted I did pick it up cause I get Guitar Hero Van Halen free and I got a soft spot for some VH.

The song selection is rather broad. I dont find myself liking a good deal of the songs, which was a similiar complaint I had with World Tour. Plus I am not a big fan of the emphasis on 4 player achievements, considering I am down to only one guitar and I suck on the drums. Plus its pretty sad how little songs from World Tour you get compared to the songs you got from Rock Band 1. But what do you expect from Activision. They rank up there with EA with wanting to rape you over and over with franchises.

Beatles Rock band seems to be making much more noise than Guitar Hero. I didn't even know Guitar Hero 5 was coming out until about 3 days ago.

That's because Rock Band is made by the original Guitar Hero guys... and people would rather play as the Beatles than have 5 drummers and 9 vocalists.

I don't know what AV is thinking but to me there is nothing appealing about having 3 drummers and two bassists at once.

I always tend to side with Rock Band over Guitar Hero. I've followed Harmonix ever since I got ahold of Frequency so many years ago on the PS2. Same thing with Amplitude after that. Honestly, if it wasnt for the Van Halen offer, I probably would have waited to get GH5. I more look at it as preordering GH:VH and getting GH5 for free.

You can check my gamerscore and see I am an equal opportunist with music games. Just be forewarned that 90% of achievements having to do with expert were done by my younger brother. He amazes me with his drum and guitar skills.

If you liked them as much as I did (coincidentally it was an online demo of Frequency that came with my PS2 that got me hooked on it, to which I bought the game later on and piggybacked to the demo to play all tunes online), you may enjoy Rock Band: Unplugged for PSP, since it's a spiritual sequel to that series. (minus the multiplayer -.- )


Is there any word if GH5 supports the Rock Band drum cymbals with regards to giving us a 5th note to hit? I didn't bother with WT since I didn't want to cash out for another drum set just to play the game like it was meant to be.

I did see Rock Band Unplugged, but the same brother that I mentioned in my earlier post let a friend of his use my PSP a few years ago and what I got in return was a cracked screen and denied the chance to play Crisis Core. So there went any chance to play Unplugged for me. Same with Dissidia.

This will be the first GH that I'm not going to pick up. There is like... one song that I like on that list. Now, if they discontinue DLC for GHWT and only release it here on out for GH5, then I'll be forced...
