I had to tell my friend's lists the same thing and I gave them a few tries before blockage. You can always make a separate email address entirely for her.
Also consider telling her how to separate people from her chain mail list so she can choose not to send those to you. As far as being polite, just a simple 'Spam 101' explanation of the bad things that chain mail does and why you don't need them is good.

just set up a rule so that if it meets multiple criteria, i.e. from these people and contains FW: in the subject, then move it.

you can set both at once; if you're having problems just don't use the rule wizard.

i had to do this with my crazy gramma too (not the one you met, the other one)

basically i just told her if she didn't stop sending me them, i was going to make my email program just look for emails from her and put them directly into the trash

and that if I did so, when she sent me something important i would never see it -- i kinda used the "cry wolf" scenario -- if you keep sending me bullshit, i won't pay attention when it isn't bullshit
