Huge necro. My current psp is 5.00 M33-6. From what I looked into 5.50 Gen-D3 is the current CFW right? Is there any reason to stay 5.00 M33-6 or should I just upgrade to 5.50 Gen-D3?

I haven't kept up to date with the PSP CFW stuff but I think there is a ISO loader for 6.20 HEN-C or something like that. I think I saw something for 6.35/7. There seems to be some PSN downloaded games signed as well ( the signed ones I think can play on Regular firmware just like if you bought it) PSPISO.com has more info and games if you want to look up more info.
I'm still on m33-6 and never saw a reason to upgrade. Sadly, I'm having a harder time finding new released patched games. I haven't really looked much into it, but, is there a way to patch your own games for specific CFWs?
The link/guide I have says it's outdated and that you should look for something called ISO TOOLS, Here is the 'old' method yt guide though
Goddamnit why can't this shit ever work the first time.
I've lost my battery and have to use the AC adaptor to play... and now the fucker can't upgrade to OFW 6.35 because 'my battery level is too low'.. wtf am I supposed to do now?
I got a PSP 2001 recently that has 5.50 GEN-D2 on it and was wondering what I should do with it firmware-wise. I've seen a bunch of guides around for upgrading to Promotheus, but I don't know what the incentives to that or anything else are. I was intending to just leave it be, but had problems with Tactics Ogre last night and assumed it was a cfw problem since it got stuck on the loading screen and google didn't produce anything helpful.
Also, suggestions for any programs, themes or tools? When I used the memory card it came with the first time, it showed an error and had no data so I had to format and have no idea what might've been on it.
fuck gen.

Is there any perceivable difference between the different flavors? Also the guide I found was for PRO, is it applicable?
1. Open VSH menu by clicking on the Select button from xmb(main psp menu)
2. Change USB device to Flash0
3. Connect your psp to pc
4. Navigate to \vsh\etc\
5. Open version.txt using notepad or wordpad
6. In the first line change the 9.90 to 5.50 and save.
7. Disconnect your psp from the pc and change the USB device back to Memory stick in vsh menu
8. Download OFW 6.60 - http://psp.dashhacks.com/file/2119
9. Extract the file
10. Copy EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME/UPDATE/
11. From the xmb (main psp menu) run the update from Game – Memory Stick
12. Now you are on OFW 6.60
13. Download 6.60 PRO B-9 - http://psp.dashhacks.com/file/2123
14. Extract the file
15. Copy PROUPDATE and CIPL Flasher folders to PSP/GAME/
16. From the xmb (main psp menu) run the PROUPDATE from Game - Memory stick.
17. Press X to install CFW
18. From the xmb (main psp menu) run the CIPL Flasher from Game - Memory stick.
19. You have successfully installed 6.60 PRO B-9
Yes, it is applicable. And no, just get the latest 6.60 Minimum Edition.
what a bro. wouldn't install neuron's initially but was able to do it by going through PRO first, looks like everything's gravy.
Isn't CFW 6.35 Pro suppose to be better/more stable than the newer one? and it has the permanent thing too
Had had literally 0 problems with this firmware and it is very lightweight and runs a lot of my plugins better than previous versions. Used to get slowdown with Hexyz Force and other games when using remotejoy... I don't now.
Why do the guides always say to upgrade to official firmware as part of the steps to upgrade to the latest CFW?
I had an old PSP with CFW (don't remember which, one of the old dark alex ones), I just downloaded the latest ME CFW, and ran it in PSP and it worked fine (I updated it to play FF type 0).
dunno, I have a feeling that was the step that prevented me from being able to go straight to neutron's, though, which sucked because the last thing you want to see is "you're now on OFW" followed by an error
