Not a waste of an episode but it kind of felt like a waste of an hour.

There were a lot of little cool moments but it got bogged down too much by all the same old destiny crap.

We've seen this shit before. It may have been better if more time had gone by before the last time travel episode.

This seemed like mostly just an excuse to get Michael talking to Dean and to get rid of Anna before the finale.

I also just thought of something now, thinking back to the episode. I have come up with a possible theory on how the season could end. We learned an important thing in this episode...

Michael used John briefly as a vessel and John came out fine. Michael also told Dean that he wouldn't leave him drooling when he was done like his brothers would do....so, that brings me to a possible ending. Dean says yes in the end to Michael before Lucifer has a chance to reach Sam, or Sam stays strong and resists. Dean/Michael kill Lucifer in his current vessel, and thus he doesn't have to kill Sam, saves the world, and retains his own body after they smite Lucifer, and we move on to season six.

Why didn't Michael let anna kill John Winchester? the mom is already preggo with Dean so his vessel wouldn't be endangered and Lucifer's vessel would never have been born.

Probably because God wouldn't want him to. Michael thus far is the only Angel still operating from "up there" that still seems to care about that.

Michael also made it very clear he believed everything is planned and destined to be no matter what decisions you think you make or what free will you think you have. God planned for this to happen, the way it's happening from the begining, for him to interfere and stop Lucifer's vessel from ever being would be against everything he believes in.

Also I can't look at the dude who plays young John without seeing Tom Welling and thinking of Smallville.

Michael was Mr. Destiny, in his entire talk with Dean he was hammering home that in his understanding everything is predetermined, he KNOWS Dean will say yes. He smites the shit out of Anna because killing Sam was not pre-ordained.

Dean's supposed to say yes to Michael.
Sam's supposed to say yes to Lucifer.

Michael is just keeping things in line with the grand plan as he understands it.

What would be really cool is if Dean convinces Michael to join "Team Free Will" with he, Sam, and Castiel. That would be awesome.

Hmm, yeah I suppose that could be true too. I had just associated it with him feeling like he had Sam back as his brother and not as some blood sucking freak, and with him falling off the wagon, was too much for him. I dunno.
