Why can't they sell cool shit, like name-engraved Defending Rings made of real mythril.
Gawd.

As I believe I'm the only one who mentioned not seeing an in-game item attached - I can only assume that was directed at me.
Where did I say anything about no intention to buy it? I missed out on the Tidal Talisman because of the price - didn't seem worth it - but then came to find out it came with an amazingly useful, time-saving in-game item. I wouldn't want to miss out on something like that again, regardless of price. I'm a baller, son.

Did some digging, take a look at the back of the tag where the name is. Notice above the copyright it reads:
SV 925
This stands for Silver 925, or more commonly Sterling silver. It's the real deal.
I'd buy one if it came with an in-game item as useful as the Talisman.

These were my first thoughts exactly. Then again, Square Enix is more of a corporate conglomerate; therefore, they try and make bank in the biggest way possible. Not like when Squaresoft actually listened to their member base... but, that's a whole 'nother story. My thoughts: Even $40 would be too much for something that only looks remotely customizable from the front (considering your name would be placed on the back). $106? No thanks.
I'd rather pay somebody like Feielle to make something FFXI-worthy that was bigger then a trinket tbh /endorses.
People probably wont be able to buy them anyway, because of the 3-D secure stuff.
They need to release XI t-shirts, cheap to make and who wouldn't love a shirt with a galka in a subligar on it ?
I guess if someone is ok with paying 2,000 dollars for a bot, that this is cheap as shit. It is real silver, and most things like it cost around the same.
If ffxi wants to make real bank they should just sell bots themselfs, sense they know how the game works the best? Well should know at-least.
hm I could get this sterling silver necklace for £20

or this pearl/silver one for £30

or spend twice as much on this ugly SE crap (talisman was ugly too)
HMMM
Oh I'm not insinuating that you buy gil. Didn't mean to. That was just a general statement.
I'm just saying some people will buy this and enjoy having the memorial of the 6+ years they spent on the game, is all. Sure the price is a bit steep, but they're custom engraved so meh.
If you can afford and it's something you like, more power to you. If not, I'm sorry.
Not need to bash them for it, I guess. But we make fun of SE here every time they do something so I guess my voice falls on deaf ears.
Buy a tag, get a slot in the FFXIV beta.
I know they're supposed to be collectors items but geesh. I'd settle for a iron one or another cheap metal with a custom letter press on the back.
What was the first Players Collection item? Shadow Lord statue, or Tidal Talisman? The “Silver Dog Tag”—the second product in the Final Fantasy XI Players’ Collection line
If it was the Shadow Lord statue, then I would guess that there is no in-game reward.
If it was the Tidal Talisman, then maybe they'll announce one soon.
The talisman was the first piece. And pretty much whatever SE puts as an ingame bonus, people WILL buy it. I personally know several that buy anything SE-related even if its total junk.
