What the hell are you talking about? You randomly mentioned that you didn't spend money on gil, thus is why I said, "I can't understand how I gave you the impression that I think you buy gil."

Here I'll break down what you should have said to make it easier for people to understand, "Yo bitches, I make shitloads of paper so I can afford to bling myself out. Fuck all you poor haters!!!"

If you really need a memorial to validate something about how important FFXI is/was to you why not take a screen shot of your character, go get it silk screened on to a t-shirt and have a big arrow pointing saying "this is me online, 75 Smn!" It'd be a lot more obvious, better for showing off, and probably only cost you like $20-40.

I'm not going to argue about people bitching about everything but that's a straw man argument. Just because people bitch about most things doesn't mean that they often don't have good points about why SE is being retarded. If the money from all this merchandising went back into development for FFXI then I wouldn't mind as much. The fact is though that they are siphoning money and developers away from it to support other projects. That is what really pisses off myself and probably a lot of others. Having enough money to be able to afford this is irrelevant for most people. Most sane people are going to look at this is a lame piece of jewelry if it doesn't come with an ingame item (just like the starting country rings.) The tag will probably be a rip off too because most likely it'll just be silver plated. Again if I really want memories of FFXI, I would just take more screenshots not buy a tacky necklace.

Why ridicule people who want to buy the necklace/dogtag? I just had to explain to someone why people would pay monthly for an MMO like FFXI. They thought it was stupid still. I ended up equating it to cable tv or internet, you wanna use, you have to pay. I had to explain to another person about the LS Drama that goes on in XI/any MMO, they thought it was stupid because it was just a game. If someone wants to buy the damn dogtag, let them. It doesn't make them stupid or wasteful for doing so. Ridiculing someone for buying something like is a bit harsh but in fairness I'm wasn't going nearly that far. Basically all I was saying was most people who aren't enamored by trinkets based on this game have no real desire for an item like that and even a lot that are interested won't spend their money on it because they could spend it on something far more worth while. Sure worth is somewhat subjective but I doubt even the majority of FFXI players think that this thing is a worth while purchase.

I do admit I ridiculed the poster a bit. That was because it seemed like he basically was assuming most people bitching were doing so because they don't have the money to purchase this item and that he needed a memorial (his words) to FFXI.

As for that specific quote I was responding seriously, your favorite screen shot with all your long time friends on a t-shirt or in a frame would be a far more poignant reminder of FFXI than a tacky silver coated piece of medal. If you're not really concerned about spending $100~ and wearing a tacky piece of jewelry I can't see you being bothered by wearing a FFXI themed t-shirt.

Edit: Though I know quite a few people that collect stuff, I have never been one to appreciate collecting stuff outside of art and forms of entertainment (books, music, movies, etc.) This item, again being very subjective, is hardly what I would classify as art.
