yea, it plays fine on my other pc and laptop win7x64 ultimate aside from the IE, but can't seem to get past this direct3d problem on my older pc.

    /edit except now, i'm getting an APPCRASH: ntdll.dll D:

/edit2 tried the RC2 hook.dll again and load fine, except now no windower functions work

/edit3 fixed it by going to 182.08 vista 64 drivers

Hello, sorry for the bump but I have a similar problem. I originally had the same problem as the OP, and I followed the instructions in this thread (changing the hook, leaving calendar on) and now ffxi loads, finally ^^

But now I dont have game sounds at all. I have music sounds, but no other sound. I changed the settings in the windower gui already (max sounds, MIP), as well as POL config and FFXI config, still nothing. The sound doesnt work when I load up regular POL as well. Any ideas?

Also, I see that some people can dual box with windower, but when I try to windower just crashes? Any ideas on that? (mentioning it in case the problems are related).

Thanks! Using Windower 7 Ult and installed with Vanadiel Collection 2008.

Also, to fix the sound (I had the same thing where music would play but no effects), I ran the FFXI Config as Administrator, then moved the sound slider all the way to the right, and saved that. Doing so didn't mess up my graphics either.
bah, after hours of searching, then finding it within minutes of posting this thread... still have the dual boxing problem though. This is what it said when it crashed:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: pol.exe
    Application Version: 1.18.12.0
    Application Timestamp: 49bfb399
    Fault Module Name: d3d8.dll
    Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16385
I try and search for that file and I cant find it...
