Was in the 8th grade I guess (holy shit long time ago). I woke up and tuned in and if I remember correctly the second plane had already struck but the tower hadn't come down. Went to school where I don't think we watched it on TV. I don't think I comprehended the magnitude of what I was watching for most of the day after that.

Whats funny is there was no intent of troll. Literally, any time anything happens to another country its "oh thats sad" when it happens to US its "ZOMG WHYYYY"

Of course the reaction is going to be different. If someone in your area is murdered, your reaction would probably be "oh that's sad". If someone close to you was murdered (parent, sibling, best friend, etc.), your reaction would probably be "ZOMG WHYYYY".

People murder others every day. The only difference here is the number of people. Acts of violence happen all the time. Rape, murder, torture ect.

Another reason this hits home to people other than those directly affected by what happened, is because, that day, there were thoughts of the unknown of what was going to happen next. For me, I live in Los Angeles. Planes that were hijacked were cross country flights filled with a lot of fuel. Living in a major coastal city, thoughts of "will the next attack be here?", ran through everyone's mind.

So, even though I didn't know anybody personally affected by 9/11, it was still a very emotional day for me. I'm sure it was for others as well.

Anyone who is incentive to 9/11, to me, is a piece of shit scum. (Or any other life changing event. Whether it be nationally or personally.)

I remember seeing them crashing down. I couldn't believe it. I figured even after the damage that was caused that they would be still at least stable (Bottom halves anyway.) Just seeing footage of them falling is still jarring.

I'm not saying I believe the conspiracy theory of demo crews bringing the buildings down. Just that it was odd.

This is normally where I recount the event seeing it from 2 blocks away and watching a cloud of dust billow up as we were evacuated from our school well past the point of the first collapse and say how I havent been the same since.

I'd guess fog of war. There was mass confusion and a huge lack of communication due to an enormous number of factors. Panic, technical issues, misinformation, etc. Everything happened too quick and on too large of a scale for the proper steps to be taken in a timely fashion.

You are also missing one of the most important parts about remembering 9/11, its also about the heroism and sacrifice people displayed on that day.

Not to demean the tragic loss of life, but it was an unwilling sacrifice and the only heroes aside from the rescue teams in the aftermath were the people on the only flight that didn't hit anything because the people fought back. That, at least, was a willing sacrifice, even if it was a last ditch effort because they knew they were all going to die, anyway.

Woke up for my 2:00 Sociology class, went down to the dorm porch to smoke a cigarette before I showered. Couple friends were down there, I walked up and started talking to em like normal. I said something about going to class and one of them said "Dude... they blew up the World Trade Center."

I was like wtf no way... saw it was true and I was like well... soc should be interesting today, might as well go. Went to class and there were like 2 other people, teacher called it off.

I just finished my Bio class at St. Johns' University, which is not far from NYC. I then climbed four floors of the next building to my Psych Seminar and then heard the news from the psych dept's secretary about the attack and about the college closing early. The rumors heard as I was heading home ranged from the Empire State Building being hit too to the White House. I came home and watched the news and like everyone, I was transfixed for hours. Many people from Long Island died that day and my previous business even catered on of the wakes...

Well this and the various law enforcement agencies that showed up used our school as a base of operations while it was happening and the staff was more concentrating on listening to them and telling kids to go to home room than getting us out. I pretty much wigged and refused to stay anywhere but the ground floor so I was stuck in the principle's office when I saw some swat looking mother fuckers show up, it was pretty weird.

U.S. Citizens died in the tsunami too. I haven't seen a "Patriot Day" for them yet. Oh right, it didn't happen on "our" soil so it's moot.
