Our school actually held back on telling the students about the attack at first they just said there was a fire. When I got to AP Microeconomics the teacher has the news on and said that the Twin Towers were gone. I had to ask like five times until a friend told me to shut the hell up before it sunk in, I couldn't believe they were attacked, never mind completely destroyed.
Someone I knew ended up losing a parent...
I would eat that cake.
I want part of his shadowy turban, it looks extra chocolatey.
I would never have called a beard delicious before today, but that is one scrumptrelescent beard.
I'd take part of the tower, more chocolate less sprinkles.
i heard about it 3 days later, and it was 9/12 here when it was 9/11 there (so it wasnt our bussiness anyway)
Was away at college, asleep when my mom calls saying a plane hit the WTC. I'm kind of groggily thinking, "Eh, that sucks, but why are you calling me?" and just went back to sleep after she hung up. Called again later saying the second plane hit, naturally flipping out about terrorists going for big cities. I go downstairs to the apartment building lobby and ask the front desk guard what the deal on classes is since everyone's wigging out and pretty much got told to take the day off. Mom winds up driving like 45m from work to pick me up and I just sat at her work watching the TV for the rest of the afternoon.
I came home from school and put on the TV and wanted to watch Pokémon(shut up) and I couldn't find it. Every channel I went to was showing the same images of the towers and at that moment I didn't even realize how severe the situation was.
I was in class and somebody came in late. They told the teacher a plane had crashed into the WTC and it was all over the news. Teacher turned it on and let us watch for a couple minutes, then they told us to mute the TV and we could watch while they did their lesson. We were watching when the 2nd plane hit, teacher's jaw dropped and just said 'Fucking turn it back up.' It wouldn't be long before I heard, 'Goddamnit, they better let us still fly for our senior trip.' (There was some difficulty convincing the school board terrorists didn't want to kill us, but we managed).
On the whole, the various teachers through the school would leave the news on while they taught over the next couple days. That soon stopped. Apparently the parents of a kid that went to our school did not want their child being informed by the news. As such, they started causing all kinds of trouble until nobody was allowed to watch the news in school anymore, and the teachers couldn't talk to us about it. Thankfully, since it was just one family, if the kid wasn't in the class, the teacher left on the tv anyway.

9 or 11, day, patriot
I remember the day because of how surreal it started.
I had just moved to Arizona, and had afternoon classes. Around Noon my roommates wake me up, Grinning and telling me that The World Trade Center was destroyed, the government had gone into hiding and that the Pentagon was on fire. I walked out to images of the second tower collapsing - that close up shot where the antenna falls in and a second later the tower itself starts to pull inward.
At this point I think they're fucking with me. Yeah? Yeah, totally. The reason being is that HBO or showtime or starz, who the fuck ever. They made a movie shot from the perspective of a 24 hour news channel on the start of a Nuclear War. I'd seen it when I was in middle school, at the time it freaked the hell out of my and my dad because we turned it on in the middle of it and thought it was really CNN right as the missiles where starting to launch, It took about 10 minutes before we realized it wasn't real, but those where some weird fucking 10 minutes.
Back to 9/11: Watching the footage of the tower collapse was some weird 10 minutes. I saw the 2nd tower collapse, then the first, then the pentagon, then the second plane hit. I'm like "Yeah yeah I've seen this before, watch its just a movie". And then I changed the channel to MTV and it was the same footage. Every single channel had the same footage. It wasn't until I saw the footage of the plane hitting the tower that I realized it wasn't fake, the explosion was too real. From that point on all the footage I'd already watched took on a horrifing new perspective.
Definitely agree that it was a weird feeling. I was a senior in high school sitting in government class. Someone came in and told our teacher to turn on the tv. We started watching the news before the 2nd building was hit so it was a big "holy shit what the fuck is this real" when we watched as the 2nd plane flew in.
edit: wow really wrong thread. but lol @ the 9/11 cake..
I turned 21 that day, it was my birthday first, bastards!
Happy 29th, go me.
I mean, it was a bit surreal, but life in general is. The most powerful moment to me was finding out about the plane that fought back and went down in PA.
hope everyone had a good sept 11th ^^

Honestly ppl getting bent out of shape over images like that make me laugh. Yes it was tragic what happened, but holy shit lighten the fuck up. I think the last thing people who die want everyone else to do is act all mopey and sad on the anniversary of their deaths. Crack some jokes, remember the good times and move the fuck on.
