You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

cream if you feel that way THEN DO SOMETHING for the tsunami victims et al.

the issue is not "omg people don't care about other countries so we shouldn't care about 9/11"

it should be "omg people don't care about other countries so I will do things to show them to care"

    seriously

My god you're right, we can't possibly hold memorials for the 9/11 dead without first pausing to acknowledge everyone else who died today.

Start making a list, I'll wait for you to finish it. Your relentless commitment to the lives of non-Americans has moved me sir, so don't let me down.

You are trying to compare an act of violence with an act of god. 9/11 was a world changing event. There have been other catastrophes since, but nothing like 9/11. I'm not talking about death tolls.

People murder others every day. The only difference here is the number of people. Acts of violence happen all the time. Rape, murder, torture ect.

I think he's trying to say the loss of human life should be important to everyone no matter how the life is lost. Whether a "terrorist attack" or a natural disaster.

Are there pricks out there that don't give a shit and want to kill mass numbers of people? Yes. This didn't start 8 years ago. There have always been people like this and there always will be.

This may not be you be your thread but you are doing a good job of ruining it.

Edit: The thread asked a simple question and you derailed to an argument that was so off topic most people don't know what we are talking about.

Let's see. I was in Spanish 1 during my freshman year of highschool. The Spanish 2/3 teacher came in and they mumbled about in Spanish for a bit and my teacher turned on the TV without a word to CNN. (Our HS had a Channel 1 contract so every classroom at a dinky little 20" TV.) Anyway she kept it on the rest of the class, which was long enough to watch the second plane slam into the tower. The bell rang and we were switching classes during the first fall, and then my other teacher refused to watch it.

It was one of those things where the implications don't hit you until later. We'd been laughing it up that morning since it was an off-day in class for us. It wasn't until a couple hours later while I was bored in class and thinking that I realized just really what had happened.

Yea I didn't realize the actual events of 9/11 till hours later when I was at home watching people jump off the WTC towers on CNN.

I was in my first year of college still living at home with my parents.

I decided to skip one of my morning classes in favor of smoking a J and going home to grab some breakfast since I had woken up late and didn't have time for it earlier.

I walked in stoned as a goat to see the first tower on fire. My dad started talking about how they thought it was possibly pilot error...and in the middle of him talking about it the second plane hit.

We didn't say a word for about 2-3 minutes. It was total shock. My buzz evaporated at that moment when we realized what was really going on.

To this day that's still one of the most vivid memories that I have (which says a lot for a stoner who has a hard enough time remembering where his keys are).

You guys are just as guilty of ruining this thread by even acknowledging the dipshit/troll posts. It's expected. They want attention and you're giving it to them. Ignore it and move along.

I agree, it didn't fully hit me until later when I had a chance to process everything.

Like someone else mentioned. I didn't get angry or disgusted until the news started showing reports of people in middle east countries celebrating. That just made me want us to go to war with them.

Just put Cream on ignore to improve thread quality.

You are also missing one of the most important parts about remembering 9/11, its also about the heroism and sacrifice people displayed on that day.

You're right. However, this was not simply an act of 'murder'. It was not simply a matter of numbers. It was an attack on a construct of 'American' identity.

It was politically motivated. I mean, it was a symbolic act. That's why we put it on a pedestal.

It changed the world. And so in a sense, you can mourn 9/11 for what happened that day to the people who died, for the reasons it happened, for the aftermath, for what it means for our future, etc.

It was a symbolic act of violence as well as a horrific act of violence. Those two aspects of 9/11 are what make it important to 'us' as a community.

I don't understand how you can dismiss it as just another violent loss of life.

You're being to simplistic. It's not about the logistics of the attack - although that matters. And it's not entirely about the symbolism - although I'd say that's the major component.

So yes, you are really just stating some obvious points while simultaneously ignoring others.
