I might be in a minority by saying that, but I just couldn't stand assaults. Salvage on the other hand....

Why? I can understand why you would hatecertain assault (some of them have retarded balance issue like orichalcum survey, and supply recoveries), but what's wrong with assault system as a whole?

I loathed most Assaults. The only exception seemed to be Nyzul isle and Golden Salvage when a summoner did all the work (where I didnt really have to participate). I wouldn't say there was anything particularly wrong with it, it just didn't appeal to me. I much preferred Limbus and Salvage. Even though Limbus in a sense is very similar to assaults, it did have many differences and those differences made it appeal more to me.

    What rank are you?

I completed every assault right after their release, and I had a blast. They were interesting to figure out most of the time, and many tests your skill in a way that isnt done anywhere else in the game. I've done all of the 5+ times (assault book x2, and helping static to get to captain), and still enjoy doing them.

I understand it's a matter a taste, but I've the feeling you never really tried to appreciate assault. You sound like someone who is bashing salvage because it sucks to have no gears, when they went once or twice with shitty group.

I was a second lieutenant when I quit last year. As far as salvage goes, im not knocking it in any way. I thought Salvage was a blast but the assaults that were needed to do it were a different story.

I actually really enjoyed that quest. I can only hope that a few of the various guildleves have you enter a hostile area and stealthily make your way through a maze searching for something that can be in any number of places, then escape. Being detected alone being a race for escape or death. Which was totally what that cookbook quest was like.

Lord help you if you accidentally aggro'ed the taurus who is inside the maze tucked away in that little room. No where to run! You'd have to be quick with distracting the taurus then warping to live. Otherwise you're doomed the minute your HP hits yellow and every skeleton around you comes running for you.

    Edit:

I also really liked the other EXP Scroll quest. Where you ran around Riverne Site #A01 or #B01 to find the Rivernwort for the old lady. Another example of running around a hostile area looking for something, and if you're detected by the mobs there was a good chance of death. Although this area was more forgiving as you could teleport to another island to lose aggro.

The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't solo the scale drops to hop islands. Otherwise, it was completely solo-able.

My point is if every quest give you some exp then you lvl up too fast and you can say hello to endgame in 1 month and you are "done" in maybe 6 month like in other mmo's. Personlly i don´t like exp quests cuz this reason.

The reason why i'm a little worried is that (well i already said this ): We don´t have much information about FFXIV yet but they said the main focus is the Guildleave AND you get exp (or w/e the new point system called) from those quest.

Maybe the limitation for guildleave per day is @ 5 or 10 quest. After this you "must" go out and kill mobs like in FFXI if you wanna grow up.

P.S. Don´t start the thing again about casual and hardcore player cuz its a endless and senseless discussion. ^^

Exactly. Here's a shocking guess, maybe they will balance FFXIV's "leveling" around the fact that you get exp from every quest you do? So that odds are, you probably won't hit endgame in 1 month, because that would be fucking retarded for their business/subscriber model?

In WOW (when you first began), you probably did several thousand quests, and it still took you 6 months-1 year to hit the level cap. It all depends on what the game is designed for.

You should read the whole post and not what you wanna read or understand.
I never said you can hit the max lvl in FFXIV w/h one month nor i said anything about WOW. Maybe other (read: all) mmo's means WOW, my fault.
This is my personal argument about the quest thing and i didn´t say everyone should agree to this. If you don´t like it, ok, but don´t whining about if anyone attacked your little holy world.

So, if I understand you then, you don't like exp quests because of the possibility you could level up too fast and hit endgame content in 1 month and be "done" in 6 months?

And yet, as you say, we don't know anything about the game, so you have no reason to assume that would even be possible.

I don't know what you're talking about with my "little holy world", I'm just pointing out you're QQ'ing over your own speculation rather than facts. Speculation which will be wrong, because it is retarded on SE's part to be "done" that fast.

I don´t remember but did i said everything what i said is fact ?
Well once more: I said i'm worried (i hope you know that word) about if that what i think is reallity in 1 year. I think SE isn´t so stupid but can anyone confirm this 100% @ the current time ? I guess no. If i'm wrong then i'm happy, if i'm right then meh. Why is that so hard to understand ?
I could understand your responce if i said they whole game is bs and how it sux based on current informations.
SE did some strange things in the past so u'll never know what they doing with FFXIV. ^^

So much anger, somebody needs to masturbate. God forbid people discuss what they feel about the information from an interview in a topic titled "Interview Discussion". Screw them, they need to go back to FFXI.

Crying over gaining skillpoints from questing is retarded, to me it seems that the devs are actually paying attention to some of the trends of western mmos and mixing them with the eastern traditional grindplay.

throwing questing into the leveling process not only helps the "hardcore" type of gamer, by giving them something to do while looking for your traditional grind partying, but caters to your more casual gamer, by letting them feel they can still play with limited time.

it should be seen more as a financial tool rather than anything else, as they are very likley going to limit the number of quests per day, or the ammount of times they may be repeated, it makes sense to do it this way as then it can't be abused for gold farming as badly as if it were unlimited.

It's more or less fact that it will take a minimum of 4-6 months before there will be anywhere near enough players decently skilled/leveled enough to take part in any sort of endgame event. questing will help people get there but it will likely not be the only way to get there and more likely not the fastest way (aion is a good example of this).

worrying about shit you cant change is pointless, crying over someone criticising your views is also equally as pointless, take it on the chin and be a man.

In WoW, even at the very beginning it did not take even a month of regular play to hit the level cap.

If you could force yourself to play it nonstop I suppose, the game was so vanilla and so boring at release, but let's not hijack this thread to be about WOW.

I didn't mind the pace of FFXI, I wonder if they will do something like the subjob quest at level 18 (or equivalent progression point); not sure what it would be but they seem to have learned from the subjob fiasco of people having to level jobs they didn't care about.
