I didn't mind the pace of FFXI, I wonder if they will do something like the subjob quest at level 18 (or equivalent progression point); not sure what it would be but they seem to have learned from the subjob fiasco of people having to level jobs they didn't care about.
I doubt there will be sub jobs in 14, considering being able to swap on the go. Either way I wouldn't mind. If there weren't subs, I'd probably feel a bit more relieved, though.

    The irony.

Go cry about it and play FFXI if you're so butt hurt about being casual. yada yada yada
The annoyance came from you telling people to stfu and go back to another game for discussing the game in a DISCUSSION thread. Your last comment didn't make since what so ever, seeing as how it was you getting upset about an opinion. My response wasn't to an opinion. But I'll digress since you don't seem to be able to grasp the concept and therefore a worthless conversationalist.

Yeah, I actually like the FFXI pace. I don't have much time to play myself but it still gave me something to do over a period of time. Most other games, got boring far to quick. Sure I wouldn't be able to get on and do hour long events but it was much more fun and gave me many more things to do.

As for the sub jobs, god I hope so. That set the game apart from others so much. The new game seems to be going with the same thing in the fact that you can change jobs unlike many other MMO's, but I would still love to see sub jobs.

Mmkay, and I was stating something, which is like you said... a discussion. I'm tired of hearing people bitch and moan about being casual. So I stated my two cents. Maybe I came off as rude, but hmm... Notice, how nobody cared. Oh yeah! Except you, who just had to whine at me relentlessly for an opinion. You can insult me all you want, but it's called freedom of speech, dude. Stop trying to be a martyr.

There's another problem with quests yielding exp in FFXI. Job change. 1. Accept quest as low level, 2. Farm stuff as high level, 3. Turn in quest as low level, 4. *dingdingdingding*

I'm perfectly happy with quests giving other rewards than exp, because lots of FFXI quest rewards actually add something special (special compared to exp) to your character (Subjob, Level cap raise, RSE, AF, Weaponskills, Battlefield/Area access and so on).

I suspect that there aren't going to be sub jobs as such. You have these 10 ability slots to fill, and I think that you will be able to customize your job by selecting the abilities you load. Imagine coming out as something like WAR with bits and pieces from SAM and PLD...

    I'm sorry, why's that a problem again?

Ignoring the fact that this is XIV and not XI and so this discussion shouldn't apply...

It allows you to level a job that may be a pain in the ass at low levels or get no invites.

Is there some concern that someone could use it to get all the way to MAX_LEVEL_CAP? Is there concern that someone will get to MAX_LEVEL_CAP and not know how to play their job? Well, gosh, that never happened before WOTG! :eyeroll:

I don't find an issue with leveling 'too fast' but the problem I had in WoW was that you leveled so fast that you would surpass a ton of content. If the content along the way is only going to be out leveled within a few hours of game play, what point is there to even bother with it? I think with a slower pace, you often give more opportunity to explore more. The leveling scale in WoW is so inclined and easy that you realize there is no need for a level 20 dungeon when you'll be 40 in a few days anyway and that gear/time is simply wasted.

Being that FF14 doesn't have 'levels', I don't see subjobs being added as it wouldn't fit the idea of the game. I'm just hoping for quality gameplay with groups and without groups and for the content to continuously spread around the game world as opposed to spear heading to 1 or 2 specific raids/instances/end game. In FFXI, there were so many things to do that you almost couldn't fit it all into a normal/average player's schedule.

PS: Please keep world mobs in the game. While I don't care to camp them, having them be completely random spawns and having them there to strike fear in the lower level players and challenge in the leet players has always been something I enjoyed.

This. On my run to 80th in WoW, I really didn't need to do dungeons for gear- in fact, I usually just bought gear off the AH as I went. Gear matters only at the top- whatever the newest expansion is that everyone's playing. On the other end, there were people doing their 2nd, 3rd, 15th character that didn't want to have to do them. Thus, the express road to level-upsville.

Personally, if FFXIV had that sorta thing I'd just ask them to give us some kind of the Bind to Account items WoW has- the ones that give an exp bonus as part of their stats.

Well, since there won't be levels as we know them in XI, starting a quest on one job and finishing it as another probably won't mean a whole hell of a lot. Since SE already mentioned some Leves have requirements, it's probably safe to say they have set rewards, too. Start the blacksmith quest and change to your warrior to finish? Well, what's +5 blacksmithing gonna do for him?

I guess it'd also be possible to like focus on melee jobs for years, then one day suddenly decide to try a mage. Info so far suggests you'd be able to use your melee gear on them since gear would be stat locked (think D2, I guess?), but they also made it sound like a nuke would do less damage without a staff/wand equipped.

I guess the ultimate comparison will lie in how grouping progress will relate to solo. Said melee turned mage should get more staff/wand skill out of a group/leve (though he may be able to solo lesser leves thanks to stats/gear), but he'd probably still have the option of just grinding a little, hopefully no more at less than half the group progress since it becomes discouraging to try while group formation comes with its own headaches.

So just because I joined in August means I'm some kind of noob? Regardless of the 5 years, almost 6, I've spent on FFXI? Ok, whatever makes you happy. Nice retort, btw.

Just because I don't take the internetz OMG SO SRSLY like you do. Grow up.

    Anyway, avoiding the SERIOUZPOLEEZ;

The problem I had with WoW is that like a lot of people stated: you go through content way too fast and miss a lot of stuff. I'm hoping that FFXIV has a nice pace that's kind of in between WoW's and FFXI (not to mention, I don't want it to be so easy it's practically retarded). However, I really disliked being forced to party constantly, considering it's not very easy to solo in FFXI and usually yeilds little gain. I admit, all of my parties were very fun and social; but it'd be nice if I could do things on my own time for a change. I really hope guildleves shed a lot of light on this, and I also hope the rewards aren't completely useless like a good portion of FFXI's were....lol

    Aww but I wanna play!

If anything your posts are a hilarious, ever-reminding proof that being a moron transcends any [imaginary] connection you and/or others might think it has with the join date of a poster on an internet forum.

If anything, hyperboles aside, gems like you and BRP and all his tens of thousands of posts are all the more reason for a normal person to observe, and hopefully realize that "this is what I will become if I take the internet too seriously/if I try to fill the huge black of a hole in my life with the internet".

    Oh, it's funny alright.

I understand about the content part...there's still zones in the game I have barely touched. But part of the nice thing about that is the choice of various zones to exp in or explore, especially if you are on a crowded server. If one area has a lot of people, there's usually a few zones (or even towns/areas within the same zone) offering quests so there aren't tons of people bottlenecked in one area, or if you don't like a zone/instance it's not the only place you can go (I ironically hate Grizzly Hills because of those stupid elite giants roaming all over the place aggroing me). They even have achievements for completing a bunch of quests in all the areas for people who are into that. I'd enjoy a few less quests overall in exchange for stronger stories out of said quests, but there's a balance.

Also, I do like rare mobs to "camp" on occasion but I don't want to be forced to set my RL schedule around it because it drops the only thing for XYZ class available or whatever. Time-Lost Proto Drake is a good example of something no one actually needs but is very desirable to have. I'm perfectly cool with that. I'd rather not be forced into another Shikigami/Stray Mary/Ridill situation, tyvm.
