    BG Intervention?

I am addicted to cola. I generally drink diet cola but the brand generally doesn't matter. Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi or Diet NoName is all the same to me (hence problem #1: dead palette). When I was working from home and playing FF11 at all hours I could drink two 2 litre bottles of the stuff in an evening without blinking an eyelash. I am on a healthy kick over the last 8-9 months and am trying to eat healthily but I can't seem to be able to kick the diet cola.

I've tried going cold turkey but that didn't last past my work's lunchroom vending machine. I tried switching to lemon-lime flavours, like Sprite or 7-Up but these flavours don't exist in diet in restaurants very often and I must maintain my svelte figure. I've tried juices but there aren't many flavours I like and I miss the bubbles. I tried water and carbonated water (for bubbles) but they're so blah. I'm considering trying the Vitamin Water brand, but the contents seem a bit shady and I've heard they're full of sugar.

Any suggestions on how to cut this out of my diet? I would like a drink that is good for me and not loaded full of sugars and salts. And something I like more than diet cola.

Man I feel for you guys that get stuck on soda. Caffeine is a helluva drug?

I might drink a soda once every few months give or take and cant imagine having to have that shit to function. I have friends and family that get migraines, shakes and what not when they try to quit.

I wish I could help but outside of saying "sucks to be you", I am drawing a blank.

If it is the caffeine that you're addicted to, and not the taste/texture (carbonated drinks in general) then tea is a good alternative. It's surprising how much caffeine there is in tea, and you can definitely feel it's effects after a couple of cups. Iced tea is also pretty nice, Lipton's iced tea is great. I'm sure you've probably tried it, if not, the lemon, peach, citrus and tangerine flavours are all nice.

The only way to drink tea is hot with milk and 2 sugars. Trust me on this, I'm english, we built an empire on Tea (then lost it on fucking coffee, damn you satan's beans, damn you).

I used to be thoroughly addicted; I had a supermarket right next door to my high school, and so every single day from 9th to 12th grade, I bought a 2-liter of coke to drink during the day. In addition, I'd almost always have a couple more cans when I got home. After graduation, I was still drinking probably 8-12 cans a day, sometimes more. I finally decided a couple of months ago to stop drinking so much of it, because it's obviously unhealthy.

I knew if I decided to quit, cold turkey, I'd end up not doing it, so I weaned myself off of it. At first, I limited myself to one can a day for a week or so. I also limited myself access to it, so I couldn't impulse-buy more of it; I wouldn't keep any more in the house, and would only carry enough cash to buy what I needed to buy. After that, I cut it down to 1 can a day on the weekends, and 1-2 cans a week during the week. It was overly strict, certainly; I wasn't some sort of detoxing caffeine fiend or anything, but I'd rather err on the side of caution, because I know that I'd buy a soda every time I was out.

Now I'm just conscious of how much of it I drink. I usually only have a couple a week. I never drink any when I'm home anymore, mostly only when I'm out eating somewhere. That's more often then I'd like, admittedly; one of the downfalls of working a mall job, I guess.

    I am repulsed, sir.

If we're talking run of the mill, every day, builder's style tea, you do not put sugar in. Just enough milk to make it turn red-orange (like a house brick) and definitely no sugar.

If you were to have said, for example, chamomile or lemon grass, I might have agreed, but I'm going to err on the side of righteousness and call you out on your hideous sense of taste! Heathen!!

I'm also in the midst of doing the same thing. Tea is a decent alternative, but i've yet to find one that i could truly drink all the time (arizona sweet tea comes close, but it gets old). I think I miss more the texture than anything, i also like juices i have a 64oz juicy juice with me right now lol, its just that sodas are actually cheaper than stuff thats healthy for you, and they are typically more convient, the stores around me dont sell large packages of bottled juices or teas which is kinda shitty.

I'm sorta lactose intolerant so I can't drink straight up milk, ruling that one out for me

LIES! a builders tea has atleast 6 spoons of sugar.

i'm a coke fiend, but again, this is mainly due to an access thing. at uni theres always a vending machine or lunch area where all they have really is overpriced fruit juice or soft drinks. but i have seen me going a fortnight with just water or tea as a decent substitute.

I stopped drinking carbonated beverages a while ago. I still drink them every now and then (maybe one every couple of weeks or so when I'm too lazy to make....TEA).

Obviously, Tea is the only correct answer to your problem.
