Usually it's a matter of preference what brand of every day tea you drink. I can't really know for sure all the brands out there in the US, but Tetley, Twinings and Yorkshire tea are all pretty solid contenders.
In terms of green/white/black teas it can be a huge difference. Mostly it's due to the type of plant the leaves are picked from, preparation of the leaves and most obviously the taste.
Green Tea are usually weaker than black teas, and are usually loose leafed (not in a tea bag, you'll need a strainer or some sealable teabags) and often are somewhat aromatic, although not all the time.
Black Teas are what you're likely to find in everyday teas, they're generally stronger brewing teas, and can be heavily aromatic.
White Teas are your "Deluxe" model of teas, they're often sold with a huge list of what makes them special, and it's usually the same reasoning that coffee makers use to price their stuff highly too (hand picked from the top of one specific mountain, in one week in February, only the very tips of the leaves etc...). They usually are imbued with the finer qualities of the taste of teas, and nothing else. They're supposedly higher in caffeine, and taste almost bitter, although that's just my experience with a few different ones I've tried.
There's a hell of a lot of stuff on the web about teas and coffees if you really wanted to try become a connoisseur, but really the best advice I can give you is to try as many different teas that are available to you. Often you can request tea samples from companies, or buy very small/individual packs of tea which will let you try a few out without going overboard and buying 1kg of tea you might not like.
I've said it before

Bring it sonny, BRING IT!
Back on topic though, I tried getting rid of sugar in my tea a while back, but it just made the cuppa feel really dry (like dry wine dry).
Beer. Why the fuck has no one mentioned beer?
It won't give you diabetes and you get to keep your teeth. Doesn't taste like shit either.
interesting note: scientists say drinking tea hot increases chance of throat cancer. even though i still prefer it warm :D
Anyone who puts sugar in tea should be given a Michael Savage-grade "fuck off and don't come back".
Tea doesn't turn you into an asshole and/or danger to others?
Not sure if it was mentioned before but just in case:
There is an overwhelming amount of evidence out there that shows drinking diet sodas provides no real benefit, and in many cases will cause increased weight gain in comparison to regular soda. Basically, the artificial sweeteners trigger your body's urge to get sugar but does not satisfy it so two things happen: 1) your body is more receptive to other sugars you ingest and picks them up more readily and 2) you crave sugar and therefore tend to eat more.
