    COR/WHM

I hate playing cor/whm, but the new ls im in seems to think that corsairs cannot DD in any way at any event, so im forced to play as /whm, problem is i have no gear for /whm and even less of an idea on how to make this anywhere near usefull other than stoneskin and 1 curaga II evry 5 mins

so i guess what im asking is, what gear should i get and what should my macro's look like for this class combo :/

Apollo's/Pluto's/Auster's staff - Staff Strap - Gun - Steel Bullet
The following choices vary drastically depending on race, but your avatar implies mithra so I would suggest:
Commodore Tricorne - Nothing - Nothing - Nothing
Savage Top - Nothing - Nothing - Nothing
Nothing - Nothing - Savage Loincloth - Nothing

    Your relevant macros:

    Ctrl-1: equip luzaf's ring
    Ctrl-2: unequip luzaf's ring
    ctrl-3: evoker's roll
    ctrl-4: wizard's roll
    ctrl-5: healer's roll
    ctrl-6: warlock's roll
    ctrl-7: Random emote
    ctrl-8: random emote
    ctrl-9: random emote

    alt-1: cure3
    alt-2: regen
    alt-3: chaos roll

    alt-5: fighters roll
    alt-6: samurai roll

I've found that just because you go /whm doesn't mean you can't show them you're a respectable damage dealer. I guess people think once you're /whm your ability to use quick draw just.. disappears.

Anywho, as /whm at my prime before I quit I could get roughly 600MP~ as /whm (which is more than some Rdm and Sch I found >_>). Of course keeping this MP meant I couldn't switch out gear.. so once I used my max MP I simply switched to Quick Draw (AGI+/MAB+ gear) gear as my MP sunk.

You can get a fairly decent chunk of MP+ gear without spending a mass amount of money. Here are some thinks to look at that won't kill your pocket book but allow you to obtain a decent chunk of MP.

Electrum Rings, Walahra Turban, Blue Cotehardie, Lamia Mantle+1, RSE belts (I guess all classes have MP+ ones right?), Crimson pieces (all of them have decent MP+ AND HP+), and those two lvl50 earrings with MP+15. Oh and the MP+ strap with HP+ too.

Macro wise, erm.. just.. do whatever? God knows you should know how to properly macro a spell.

But yah, even the few times I did Odin as Cor/Whm I still put up decent numbers by shooting with peacemaker (spamming steel bullets ftw) while keeping around 300MP~ to help cure my Rng PT. I always went DD for other events. Truth be told, if you can get by with it.. just go /rdm. This lets you attain the MAB+ of /blm with the curing capabilities of /whm (unless you need blindna for fafhogg and curaga). But no matter what you sub.. just remember YOU CAN STILL QUICK DRAW.. (allbeit for less damage but still.. it's damage over time).

    Hope this helps.

Edit: damn, two replies while I was typing.. but yah. What they said too.. ^-^

First off, /blm gives more MAB than /rdm.
Second off, /blu gives same MAB as /rdm and lets you keep curaga (and more agi).

I though /blu would be a better replacement for /rdm, but losing Stoneskin, Sneak and Invisible isn't worth it for me.
For Odin, I found /whm to be better, just for another Erase to get the RNGs either into or out of AoE range.

No need for over 350-400 MP most the time, some -Enmity is cool for certain fights and Curaga 2 though.

Also, if all you're doing is SS and the occasional curaga II, stop being so fucking lazy.

Poisona, Paralyna, Blindna, Silena, Regen (just don't overwrite higher tier regens), Cursna, Erase, Viruna, Dia II if mages are otherwise occupied and it's applicable.

THAT is why they want you /whm. Not just to slap a cure up every once in a while, but to actually use your damn SJ.

If it's a situation where there's little to no real status cures you need to do like fafnuts, go /rdm or /blu instead.

    Some people...

Edit: And if I come off sounding a bit hostile, please note I'm on Day 1 of trying to quit smoking cigs again <.<!

You're probably new to endgame, maybe. But as someone who has been in it for far too long. Quit the linkshell.

You shouldn't have to play a job you don't want to. This is still a game, and it should be fun. If you don't enjoy doing something, unplug and go do something you *do* enjoy.

Or learn to enjoy COR/WHM, I guess :/

I'd like to answer your question but I honestly don't know enough about the nuances of COR/WHM to dive into the topic. However, I have known and played with a really great Corsair and I can't really wrap my head around /whm. If you're in a mage party and you need to heal them, then your mages need better Stoneskin/DR idle sets. If you're the only healer in a melee party, then something needs to give because you're not a healer, you're a Corsair.

It can be incredibly difficult to make a linkshell <full of sheep> see the light when it comes to how to play a job and how to use subjobs situationally. That kind of mentality leaves no room for improving the group as a whole and, if you're a good player who knows how to play your job, will lead to arguments between you and the <idiotic> people calling the shots who are telling you you must /whm. You might take Nitsuj's advice and just leave the linkshell. On the other hand, you could try sitting down with your leaders who are telling you what to do and make them see the light and place some trust in your judgment.

With your linkshell's logic you could propose this: If you don't need Erase or Curaga, you might as well /sch and stay on Light Arts. You'll save MP per cast and also have Conserve MP. As for spells, you'll maintain Cure III and gain Regen II. Heck you could even pop Sublimation and use that Crimson Mask of yours, with some other gear, to off-set HP loss. Very likely, it's about as logical as their reasoning behind /whm.

Man if we let members come whatever job they wanted to events we'd end up with 0 rdms, 0 brds, and probably a nin tank lol. We do our best to cycle people on their jobs, but our members also realize their nin or bst will probably never see the light of an event. Then again our members know that they are expected to play the job/sj at events which will most positively benefit the outcome of the event. If you're unhappy then ya quit, but if it said in the LS rules that you're expected to play what you ask then you're SOL.

Get a different LS - that's just retarded.

Whatever the case, don't gear for MP.

Yes, I'm quite aware of what sub job does what. I just give people the benefit of the doubt that they should probably already know this (or at least have read up on how their job and subjobs work after six or whatever years).

Thank you for clarifying it though.

Gives you a VERY shitty stoneskin. I doubt it breaks 100ish DMG when subbed.

OP: Use COR roll before killing the NM.

    not new to endgame but the reason i dislike cor/whm is that i have absolutly 0 gear for it, and a nearly perfect cor/melee build (for ws and tp gain) and im the kind of person that when she feels gimp gets frustrated (IE; the jobs the problem, my lack of understanding this aspect is, and hence the reason i started the thread) ^^;;
